Overview
This is a full-time, FLSA non-exempt position at the Carson City Library, located in Carson City, NV. Under general supervision performs a wide variety of professional librarian duties in the activities of the library including reference and technical services. Performs related duties as required.
Retirement Plans
Individuals may choose between the following Nevada PERS Retirement plans:
- Employer-Paid PERS: $33.6210 - $47.0694 hourly / $69,931.68 - $97,904.30 annually
- Employee/Employer-Paid PERS: $40.5599 - $56.7839 hourly / $84,364.54 - $118,110.46 annually

Responsibilities
- Assist in the development, implementation and evaluation of programs and services in reference and technical services; recommend program and procedure changes.
- Review new publications and collection materials and select materials for acquisition and/or disposition, as appropriate.
- Determine appropriate classification and subject headings for Library acquisitions including books, reference materials and publications.
- Oversee and coordinate the processing of Library acquisitions for circulation.
- Input, modify and retrieve cataloging files using a computer terminal.
- Advise and assist Library patrons; demonstrate the use of Library catalogs and other reference resources.
- Refer patrons to books or other Library materials to further their reading interest; assist patrons in developing research strategies.
- Perform manual and computerized bibliographic searches and retrievals for local and state agencies, other Libraries and academic institutions.
- Research and respond to difficult or technical reference questions.
- Assist in the preparation and administration of the Library's budget.
- Attend and represent the Library at professional meetings as required.
- Explain and enforce Library policies and procedures regarding patron behavior and Library resource use.
- Compile Library activity reports and statistics.
- Conduct Library tours explaining and describing Library resources, facilities, policies and procedures.
- Must perform all duties in a safe manner.
- Oversees and trains volunteers and part-time staff in work procedures.
- Provide technology training and assistance to library patrons.
- Contributes to the efficiency and effectiveness of the unit's service to its customers by offering suggestions and directing/participating as a member of a work team.
- Demonstrates courteous and cooperative behavior when interacting with the public and City staff; acts in a manner that promotes a harmonious and effective workplace environment.
Education, Experience and Certifications

Education and Experience: Any combination equivalent to experience and education that could likely provide the required knowledge and abilities. A typical way to qualify: A Master of Library Science degree from an American Library Association accredited college or university.
REQUIRED CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, AND REGISTRATIONS:
- A valid driver's license.

Supervision
Supervision Received and Exercised: Under General Supervision - Incumbents are given assignments and objectives governed by outlined work methods; immediate supervision is not consistent, but checks are integrated into work processes and reviews ensure compliance.

The physical demands described herein are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of the job. Conditions of Employment
- All new employees will serve a probationary period of twelve (12) months. Such employees are not subject to the collective bargaining agreement and may be laid off or discharged during this period for any reason.
- Continued employment is contingent upon all required licenses and certificates being maintained in active status without suspension or revocation.
- Any City employee may be required to stay at or return to work during emergencies to perform duties specific to this classification or to perform other duties as requested in an assigned response position. This may require working a non-traditional work schedule or working outside normal assigned duties during the incident and/or emergency.
- Employees may be required to complete Incident Command System training as a condition of continuing employment.
- New employees are required to submit to a fingerprint based background investigation and drug screen. Employment is contingent upon passing the background and the drug screen.
- Carson City participates in E-Verify and will provide information from Form I-9 to confirm work authorization. All candidates offered employment must complete Section 1 of the Form I-9 and provide required documentation to prove right to work in the United States.
