Overview
Library Director – Shreve Memorial Library (LA)
The Shreve Memorial Library (LA) Board of Control is looking for an experienced and enthusiastic library leader to help shape a vision for the library’s future as its next Library Director. Shreve Memorial Library has 22 physical locations (21 branches and an administrative center), a mobile library, and a staff of 154 full-time equivalents. The library serves Caddo Parish, which has a population of over 240,000 residents. The library offers public programs and hosts large-scale annual events such as Author Faires, the Children’s Book Festival, and One Book One Parish, and partners with community organizations to contribute services to events like ArtBreak. Key initiatives for this role include fostering a positive staff culture of inclusivity, implementing a recently drafted technology plan, executing a system-wide capital improvement plan, building on existing community partnerships, and forging new connections to create additional opportunities for library users to dream, discover, and do.
Shreveport sits in northwest Louisiana and is the state’s third-largest city. It’s a hub for education, business, and culture in the Ark-La-Tex region, where Arkansas, Louisiana, and Texas meet. As the seat of Caddo Parish, Shreveport also stretches into Bossier Parish and borders Bossier City. These two cities offer many amenities for both residents and visitors. Overlooking the Red River, Shreveport has entertainment, from theaters and museums to local food and casinos. The city hosts festivals and events all year, including the Mudbug Madness Cajun Festival, Mardi Gras parades, and Red River Revel Arts Festival. Several colleges and universities are based here, including Centenary College, LSU Shreveport, Louisiana Tech, Louisiana Baptist University, Bossier Parish Community College, and Northwest Louisiana Technical Community College.
