Snow Reporter + Communications Assistant
Summary: Are you an early riser with a passion for skiing or snowboarding and a knack for storytelling? Sierra-at-Tahoe is seeking a creative, organized, and enthusiastic Snow Reporter + Communications Assistant to fuel our marketing engine by sharing daily mountain updates and bringing the Sierra brand to life through clear communications.
In this role you’ll deliver an accurate and timely mountain conditions report each morning across Sierra’s digital platforms while also creating compelling assets (written and visual) to highlight on-brand mountain moments. You’ll collaborate closely with the Marketing and Mountain Operations team to ensure our updates are consistent, informed, and filled with Sierra stoke!
Duties and Responsibilities
- Arrive at the mountain by 5:00 AM on assigned days to prepare and distribute an accurate daily snow and mountain conditions report.
- Update Sierra-at-Tahoe\'s website, snow phone, and third-party platforms (X, Instagram, SMS, website) with real-time conditions and operation updates throughout the day.
- Participate in radio and on-camera interviews and serve as a Sierra ambassador for weekly live segments and other branded short form video content segments.
- Contributing writer for weekly newsletter, Snow Reporter blog, drafting Instagram captions, and other copywriting support needs.
- Support PR and media efforts by gathering b-roll, assist in coordinating on-site logistics (tickets, rentals, swag), and keeping incoming requests organized via Wrike.
- Support program reporting with guidance from Communications Manager, helping pull analytics (social, email, web traffic) into monthly recaps.
- Cultivate relationships with Ski Patrol, Grooming, Lift Ops, and Mountain Ops teams to gather reliable, up-to-the-minute information.
- Capture and share quick daily condition updates via iPhone/Instagram Stories
- Other duties as assigned.
Responsibilities To Safety
- Protect the safety of self, co-workers, and Sierra-at-Tahoe Resort guests at all times.
- Report any potentially harmful equipment or situations to the immediate supervisor without delay.
- Report safety-related accidents and incidents at once to immediate supervisor.
- Follow all company and department safety policies and procedures.
- Operate equipment in a safe manner that will not lead to injury of yourself or others.
Ideal Candidate Qualifications
- Has excellent written and verbal communication skills
- An expert/advanced skier or snowboarder with a passion to ski daily, in all conditions and types of terrain
- Loves copywriting and coming up with catchy captions
- Interest in being an on-camera personality and ambassador for Sierra-at-Tahoe delivering key condition updates + stoking the market
- Is a self-starter who works well independently in fast-changing mountain environments
- A natural creative who enjoys social media, scouting the latest trends, and coming up with unique ideas and storylines
- Comfortable working outside in winter conditions, sometimes before sunrise or after sunset
- Ability to calculate snow totals and deliver accurate, on-brand resort communications
- Must have reliable winter transportation as this position works at the resort outside of shuttle bus hours.
Education and experience: Have previous ski industry experience. Bachelor’s Degree in Communications, Journalism, Marketing, or a related field is a plus—but experience and attitude go a long way! Are obsessed with weather patterns, storm tracking, and Tahoe climate quirks.
