GENERAL INFO
The School of Music at Texas State University seeks an engaging, creative, collaborative, and dedicated teacher to serve as a full-time, non-tenure-line Assistant Professor of Instruction of Music Theory. Duties to begin in August 2025.
JOB DESCRIPTION
The successful candidate will be expected to:
- Teach music theory and/or aural skills courses as part of the undergraduate musicianship core, and other topics according to the candidate’s qualifications and needs of the School of Music.
- Tutor music theory/aural skills students.
- Participate in faculty meetings, committees, and service activities.
- Other duties assigned by the Director of the School of Music.
Required Qualifications:
- Master’s degree in music theory or related field.
- Demonstrated success in teaching music theory and aural skills at the professional or collegiate level.
- A minimum of one academic year as instructor-of-record for music theory and/or aural skills courses.
- Experience working with individuals from varied backgrounds
Preferred Qualifications:
- Doctorate in music theory or related field.
- National stature as a music theorist.
- Demonstrated communication and organizational skills, and an ability to work collaboratively.
