Dayton, OH: Music Minister (St. John Bosco chapel, next to Wright State University)

The Music Minister at Catholic Campus Ministry, Wright State University (WSU), is responsible for providing liturgically appropriate music for Masses and prayer services on Sundays and Wednesday evenings, as well as other occasions. This individual recruits student music ministers and cantors and leads their rehearsals. The Music Minister is an integral part of the campus ministry team, responding to Jesus’ call to proclaim the Gospel and make disciples.

Additional information is available on the job posting page, including a PDF with more details.

The chapel is a lively, highly active Catholic community with a strong focus on traditional and contemporary music, including chant, hymns, and praise and worship. It hosts many marriages and vocations, making it a vibrant environment for ministry.

This position is ideal for someone seeking experience, supplemental income, or retirement income, especially if already living in the Dayton/Cincinnati area. It is likely not sufficient as a sole income source.

The previous music minister also held a parish job nearby and helped with chapel music. The role involves leading brief rehearsals before Masses and sharing links to music and videos with choir members. Wednesday Mass may involve additional activities, such as "Bosco Night" dinners and talks, which are student-driven.

The music library and facilities at WSU are conveniently located near the chapel, with many Catholic musicians and singers from the university’s programs involved in the ministry.

For a sense of the music and community, visit the chapel’s website and YouTube channel. The chapel has its own Knights of Columbus chapter, collaborating with others in the area, and hosts numerous events.

As the current pastor, I am very interested in finding a suitable candidate for this position and encourage those interested to consider applying.
