The Play Group Theatre (PGT), a Westchester based non-profit educational theatre organization dedicated to providing diverse theatre making experiences and performance opportunities to children and teenagers, is seeking Music Directors and Teaching Artists for our upcoming Fall season. PGT provides year-round theatre programming for students pre K - 12. All programs and performances are held in PGT’s state-of-the-art facility in White Plains, NY, easily accessible by Metro North or car.



Overview


We are seeking artists who possess imagination, flexibility, and the desire to work with children and teenagers of varied ages in a creatively charged and artistically demanding, yet nurturing environment. Our Teaching Artists must be prepared to work as a member of a strong creative team, and to help our students achieve quality performances, while still giving focus to the artistic process.



Programs



  • The ideal candidate holds a BFA/BA/BM (/MFA/MA/M.Mus preferred) and can teach a variety of ages in various contexts.

  • Our programs include Theatre Lab (ages 7-12), Little Theatre (ages 4-6) and MainStage (ages 8-18).

  • We seek Teaching Artists who have experience in an educational theatre setting in which they have successfully balanced a sound creative process with a quality product.



Responsibilities



  • Teaching and rehearsing all musical numbers;

  • Collaborating with the director and the rest of the production team;

  • Playing piano and leading a small pit for all rehearsals and performances;

  • Collaborating with the teaching team in Theatre Lab and Little Theatre and teaching music classes in those programs.



PGT after-school programs take place at The Play Group Theatre’s facility in downtown White Plains, NY on weekday afternoons and evenings, between 4-9pm. Performances are scheduled on various weekends throughout the Fall and Winter. The season runs from September 2025 through January 2026.



Qualifications



  • Minimum 3-5 years teaching and/or music directing experience

  • Excellent time management skills and the ability to juggle multiple projects at once

  • A desire to practice collaboration

  • Grace and a sense of humor under pressure

  • A sense of playfulness balanced with a fierce work ethic

  • The qualities necessary to be a positive role model for children and teenagers

  • The ability to apply the “yes AND” rule of improv to the workplace

  • Experience being bombarded with children and all their stuff and a good deal of noise, and thrive in that setting
