Producer II, Today, Explained and Explain it to Me — Vox Media. New York, NY and Washington, DC (US Only). A Producer II takes a leadership role in finding, conceptualizing, planning and executing episodes of Today, Explained and Explain it To Me. The role focuses on making episodes engaging, with strong editorial judgment, and readiness to cover developing news stories from multiple angles. The right candidate enjoys collaborative work, mentoring junior producers, and contributing to editorial and operational tasks to support daily and weekly shows. What You’ll Do
Take an editorial lead on researching, planning and writing timely and distinctive story segments Find new formats and strong guest bookings to explain the news clearly for a broad audience Assemble thorough research prep and write host questions addressing top issues Own and project manage complex episodes, working on multiple episodes simultaneously Help with operational aspects of producing a daily show and a weekly show Serve as editor on episodes of both shows as needed Work on video production as assigned Train on posting Today, Explained to the radio Pitch stories based on the news multiple times each week Report and produce enterprise stories and develop innovative formats Use scoring and clip choices to enhance the sound while adhering to fair use guidelines Support colleagues, provide solutions to workflow or editorial challenges, and mentor junior producers Collaborate on pitches and episode structure, adjust direction as needed and find new angles Prepare the show for public radio delivery when required, including editorial cuts for fundraising or reruns Who You Are

5+ years working in audio journalism Significant experience creating audio stories within fast-moving, deadline-driven teams Experience working in a newsroom Strong booking experience with the ability to secure top guests Proficiency in audio editing/mixing (ProTools) and a strength in musical scoring Video production experience Experience with project management and process development Highly organized workflow and interest in improving team processes Experience scripting and editing compelling, curiosity-driven stories Track record of developing stories drawing on diverse perspectives Passion for explanatory journalism and innovative storytelling Where You’ll Work and Our Commitment
This position is based in either Washington, DC, or New York, NY, and the candidate will work from the Vox office 2 days a week. Ability to work in field production around the DC area is required. This is a permanent, full-time position and benefits-eligible. Salary range listed below is the minimum and maximum base pay at the time of posting and may be adjusted based on experience.
