This position is for a Principal UX Engineer - Researcher / Designer (T03) and can be located in Redondo Beach, CA, Aurora, CO, or Colorado Springs, CO. Relocation assistance may be available. Clearance type: Secret. Travel: Yes, up to 10% of the time.
We are seeking a Principal UX Engineer - Researcher / Designer to contribute to the design and research of human-centered systems, applying user experience methods to features, workflows, and system modules to ensure usability, consistency, and mission effectiveness. You will plan and execute user research activities, create prototypes and wireframes, and collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver intuitive and efficient solutions. You will work independently or as part of a UX team, contribute to style guide compliance, usability studies, and agile development processes, and support programs with user-centered design deliverables.
The ideal candidate has strong technical grounding in human factors and UX methodologies and can translate user needs into actionable design deliverables.

Responsibilities
The role includes: planning and executing user studies; developing wireframes and prototypes; applying human factors principles to system design; collaborating with cross-functional teams to support agile development; ensuring compliance with style guides; delivering user-centered solutions that enhance mission outcomes; contributing to style guide compliance and usability studies; and supporting design system maintenance.
Basic Qualifications
- 5 years of relevant experience with a Bachelors degree in STEM; 3 years with a Masters in STEM; 1 year with a PhD in STEM
- Active Secret clearance required at the time of application
- Experience with user-centered design (UCD) principles, research methodologies, and usability testing, including user feedback events
- Knowledge of user engagement processes with demonstrated ability to apply them in programs to support UX products and feedback gathering
- Portfolio showcasing user-centered design solutions for web applications (attached / linked on application and/or resume)
- Demonstrated ability to translate complex requirements and user needs into intuitive and effective design solutions
- Proficiency in design and prototyping tools (e.g., Axure, Lunacy, Adobe Suite, Lucid, Figma)
- Strong communication, collaboration, and presentation skills with cross-functional teams
- Experience designing in an agile software development environment
- Experience with Human Factors Analyses (e.g., Task Analyses, Predictive Workload Analyses, Usability studies, Workload and Situational Awareness surveys)
- Experience with creating, following, and maintaining a style guide and design system
- Experience with visual design (typography, symbology, layout) and UX/UI development methods (personas, heuristic evaluations)
- Ability to travel approximately 10% of the time (for user engagement visits or usability testing)
Preferred Qualifications
- Familiarity with MIL-STD-1472 (DoD Design Criteria for Human Engineering)
- Experience designing applications for military users
- Mastery of design and prototyping tools (e.g., Figma, Lucid)
- Familiarity with Systems Engineering
- Familiarity with software development languages
Salary and Benefits
Primary Level Salary Range: $100,300.00 - $165,500.00. This range is a general guideline; base salary offers consider factors such as scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate experience, education, skills, and current market conditions. Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses reward individual contributions and company results. Employees in Vice President or Director roles may be eligible for Long Term Incentives.
