Position Summary
The Theater & Audio Visual Technician will support all technical theater & student activity events throughout all divisions at ECFS, with particular reference to the auditorium at the Bronx campus, supporting New York Society of Ethical Culture Adler Theater.
This position requires flexibility and frequent availability outside of standard business hours, including evenings and weekends, to support and staff special events and will report directly to the Executive Director of Technology.
The hiring salary for this position is $66,300. When determining the salary for a position, ECFS considers factors including, but not limited to: the scope and responsibilities of the position, internal peer equity, key skills required for the role, the candidate’s work experience, education and training, as well as market and organizational considerations.
Please note that this is an onsite role and not performed remotely. Ethical Culture Fieldston School retains its right to modify job duties in accordance with changing operational needs.
Responsibilities
- US/MS Performing Arts
- Assisting the Technical Director when working with students in and out of class to ensure student safety and best practices are maintained;
- Providing technical support for Studio Theater Series and Theater Company solo performances including: preparing the Alex Cohen Theater for productions including but not limited to: all design/technology including design, build, hang/focus, seating, and backstage operations and supporting the Tech rehearsal process for these productions;
- Supporting strike for all departmental productions;
- Supporting and monitoring all tech and design processes and preparing the event spaces for productions including all seating, backstage, etc.;
- Offering on-going support during tech week on a case-by-case basis;
- Providing technical support for all tech rehearsals including running the technology, troubleshooting, and mentoring designers and technicians;
- Supporting training for crew and student technicians for all theater and dance mainstage and STS productions, including auditorium, Alex Cohen Theater, production workshop, and scene shop equipment and spaces;
- Coordinating with all vendors and outside hires (e.g., lighting professionals, designers, photographers, etc.).
- Assembly US
- Assembling and supervising all student lighting, sound, and projection crew for the academic year assembly program;
- Partnering with Assembly Technician to facilitate joint running of each weekly assembly;
- All School
- Liaising with the Theater & Dance Department for researching and purchasing new equipment;
- Supporting the work of the Technical Director at all shows;
- Overseeing and maintaining all audio, video, sound, and lighting equipment across both campuses, including setup, strike, and inventory for all ECFS productions and spaces;
- Maintaining compliance with all school policies, state regulations, and educational standards;
- Managing the all school room booking system;
- Being able to work a flexible schedule and being responsive to event-related needs as they arise outside of normal business hours;
- Fostering positive relationships with team members and various stakeholders;
- Motivating and inspiring the team and coworkers to achieve goals; and
- Performing other related projects and duties as needed and assigned.
Qualifications
- A Bachelor\'s Degree or equivalent experience in technical theatre and audio visual productions
- Knowledge in set construction, lighting and sound operation, stage management, and A/V equipment maintenance and operation
- The ability to collaborate and build strong relationships with faculty, administrators, students, parents, and the overall community
- An understanding and commitment to cultural competency and how to support a diverse student population
- Excellent verbal, written, and oral communication skills
- A positive attitude and the ability to listen effectively and be receptive to feedback
- The ability to manage time effectively, stay organized, and prioritize required tasks
- A commitment to engaging in ongoing professional development and proficiency in utilizing and learning new technologies (i.e., Google Workspace tools)
- Reliability, punctuality, and consistent attendance
