Overview

Los Angeles Lawyer magazine is the Los Angeles County Bar Association’s premier digital publication, known for its trusted, insightful content. We’re looking for an experienced editor to lead the production of this respected bimonthly magazine. As Senior Digital Content Editor, you’ll oversee each issue from start to finish, working closely with the Editorial Board, contributors, and internal teams. This hands-on role requires strong editorial judgment, excellent editing skills, and the ability to coordinate all aspects of publication to deliver a polished, high-quality magazine. You’ll uphold editorial standards while exploring new ways to engage our evolving readership.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee the Editorial Process: Supervise all phases of magazine production, including coordinating editorial calendars and timelines, soliciting and editing articles, managing visuals and overall voice, and proofreading content prior to publication.
  • Support the Editorial Board: Serve as staff liaison to the volunteer Editorial Board, coordinating meeting agendas, supporting issue planning, and facilitating collaboration between board members, staff, and contributors.
  • Maintain Editorial Accuracy and Quality: Copyedit, fact-check, and cite-check all content to ensure clarity, legal accuracy, and consistency across every issue.
  • Work with the Sales Team: Coordinate with the advertising and business development teams to align editorial planning with advertising needs—while preserving editorial independence and standards.
  • Assist with Related Publications: Help manage or contribute to other digital publications, such as the annual Directory of Experts and Consultants.
  • Oversee Operations and Budget: Manage timelines, workflows, editorial inventory, and the annual publication budget.
  • Content Performance Analysis and Trend Monitoring: Monitor and analyze content performance metrics and stay informed about digital trends to identify new content opportunities and areas for improvement.
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • A bachelor’s degree in journalism, communications, English, or a related field.
  • At least five years of experience in digital content, publishing, or editorial project management.
  • Excellent editing and proofreading skills, with strong attention to grammar, structure, and style.
  • Familiarity with legal subject matter or the ability to quickly learn and track key legal issues.
  • Effective communication and collaboration skills, especially when working with volunteers or cross-functional teams.
  • Comfort with editorial and publishing tools
  • Experience managing budgets and coordinating publication schedules.
  • Analytical problem-solving skills and data-driven decision-making experience
  • Willingness to work flexible hours, including some evenings and weekends

Salary and Benefits

  • Salary Range: $65,000 - $75,000 per year depending on experience
