The California Post will be a bold expansion into Los Angeles with a focus on delivering powerful, agenda-setting journalism while exploring a wide range of topics beyond hard news, including entertainment, tech, and culture.

As part of this expansion, The California Post will bring The New York Post’s DNA to the West Coast and seek a fresh and fearless voice for California.

Los Angeles is a major hub for news and culture, and this role will contribute to building a strong newsroom presence focused on impactful storytelling.

As part of this bold expansion, we are looking for a News Features Reporter to join the California Post team. Reporting to the LA Specialist Editor, the reporter will pursue eye-catching exclusives and original investigations, while also shaping coverage that lands on front pages and digital platforms.

To succeed in this role, you should have a strong history of delivering deeply reported, multi-source stories that spark conversation and capture attention. We want a reporter with a track record of breaking exclusive stories in California that set the agenda and reach a wide audience.

Application Instructions: Applicants should submit a cover letter or a short video cover letter. If submitting a video, please include a link to the video in your cover letter or as part of an additional document. We do not accept direct video file uploads.

Responsibilities:

  • Produce sparkling, thoroughly reported, and accurate copy on deadline, from same-day turnarounds to longer-lead investigative features
  • Pitch fresh, original ideas multiple times a week, staying ahead of the curve and reacting creatively to the news cycle when required
  • Report across a range of topics from crime to society scandals, Hollywood and celebrity, politics, tech, education, and “only in LA” stories
  • Cultivate and maintain strong sources across beats, from community leaders to policymakers
  • Maintain the highest journalistic standards in accuracy, fairness, and clarity
  • Travel as needed to cover stories on the ground, both in California and nationwide

Requirements:

  • At least 7–10 years of newsroom reporting experience, with a strong background in features, enterprise, or investigative reporting
  • Proven ability to pitch, develop, and execute ambitious story ideas with national appeal
  • Track record of producing deeply reported, high-impact stories that stand out in a competitive news environment
  • Established sources and reporting contacts across a range of industries or beats, with the persistence and hustle to expand networks and secure exclusive access
  • Genuine intellectual curiosity across a wide range of topics—from true crime, Hollywood, and tech to politics, education, and culture—with sharp instincts for buzzy or high-impact stories
  • Strong storytelling and writing skills, with the ability to capture nuance, context, and character; clips should demonstrate narrative craft, precision, and a distinct voice
  • Excellent news judgment, accuracy, and fact-checking discipline, with a clear understanding of ethical and legal considerations in investigative reporting
  • Proficiency with WordPress or similar CMS; familiarity with digital storytelling and multimedia tools
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced newsroom while balancing quick-turn features and longer-term enterprise projects
  • High level of self-motivation, teamwork, and a solutions-oriented mindset
  • Strong writing and reporting skills are core; on-camera experience is strongly preferred for presenting stories on video across digital and social platforms
  • A strong social media presence or following is a plus
  • Flexibility to travel as needed, sometimes on short notice, to pursue story leads or conduct in-person reporting

Note: The New York Post adheres to a hybrid work model. This role will be expected to report into the office 4 days per week (subject to change based on business needs).

Equal Employment Opportunity: The New York Post does not discriminate in hiring or employment terms based on race, color, religion, national origin, age, disability, gender, sexual orientation, citizenship, or any other characteristic protected by law. We provide reasonable accommodations to qualified applicants to enable participation in the application process and to perform essential job functions unless doing so would cause undue hardship.
