Overview
The KSL TV Newscast Director is responsible to manage the technical flow of news and other live broadcasts. Requires a deep understanding of the systems, communication and timing involved in producing a compelling news show.
Note: Work configurations are subject to change based on business needs and at company discretion.
Position Details
This is an on-site role that requires the employee to regularly work at our Salt Lake City site.
Compensation
$21.00 - $28.00 per hour. Hourly rate to be determined by multiple factors including but not limited to evaluation of the education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities of the applicant along with internal equity and alignment with market data.

Responsibilities
What You Will Do:
Primary job duties will include, but are not limited to:
- Use required systems to code and direct newscasts with minimal on-air mistakes.
- Complete pre-production for newscasts utilizing equipment in news control.
- Work with News Services staff to: Coordinate and achieve clear, interesting and accurate on-air news presentations. Coordinate control room, playback, and studio in pre-production, post-production and live presentation of news, sports, and other activities as assigned or scheduled. Design and execute a graphic look for all newscasts and related productions, e.g. teases and topicals.
- Assist in maintaining an effort to keep up with state-of-the-art equipment and employs the most professional techniques in presenting work.
- Use available equipment to best meet production needs of News Department.
- Assist in maintaining a clean and uncluttered work area.
- Comply with company policies and procedures.
- Work effectively in a team environment.
- Maintain a positive and cooperative rapport with staff, and management.
- Consistently works hours required. Works more when required to meet deadlines including weekends, holidays, evenings, etc.
Qualifications
Skills and Experience We Are Looking For:
- Deep understanding of various technical systems (production switcher, camera, teleprompter, audio) required for newscast.
- Ability to learn new software and systems and apply knowledge in various contexts.
- Ability to work with moderate supervision, confidential information and be a self-starter.
- Capable and willing to resolve unexpected problems and be flexible to perform unscheduled assignments.
- A high level of proficiency with computers, software and new technologies.
- Highly familiar with the benefits and shortcomings of all types of media including, but not limited to “heritage” media as well as all types of current and emerging social and digital media.
- Possess excellent oral, written, presentation and interpersonal skills.
- Work effectively in a team environment.
- Proven ability to handle stress.
- Ability to consistently work hours required. Works more when required to meet deadlines including weekends, evenings, etc.
- Project an appropriate professional appearance and demeanor
- Maintain positive and cooperative rapport with staff, management and clients
- Computer literate with working knowledge of Excel, Word and Adobe Acrobat.
Physical Demands
- Receive, process, and maintain information through oral and/or written communication effectively.
- Substantial physical movements (motions) of the wrists, hands, and/or fingers.
- Ability to extend hand(s) and arm(s) in any direction with good eye and hand coordination.
- Lift, move, and carry up to 25 pounds on occasion.
