Job Title

Writing Center Associate Director

Summary

The JCU Writing Center is committed to fostering a learning environment where theory and practice are in constant dialogue. Grounded in writing center theory, learning theories, and writing pedagogy, we prioritize an inclusive and holistic approach to writing support. At the Writing Center, we work to cultivate a community where reflection and growth are central to the writing process. Our practices are rooted in social justice pedagogy, and we aim to promote critical thinking, reflection, and productive discomfort that encourages growth and understanding. Through reflection, we aspire to help writers examine the broader social contexts that inform their work, promoting awareness and advocacy through writing.

We are dedicated to creating a space where all writers feel welcomed, empowered, valued, and heard. We strive to meet each individual where they are, recognizing the lived experiences, backgrounds, and identities that shape their writing and learning journeys. We embrace a growth mindset, believing that all writers can develop their skills through sustained practice, reflection, and engagement with their own processes. By caring for the whole person, we aim to empower each writer to find their voice, grow their voice, and thrive academically, professionally, and personally.

The Writing Center Associate Director is primarily responsible for overseeing and expanding our graduate student writing support. The Associate Director will work closely with the Office of the Graduate School to determine the best, most effective ways to support graduate student writing.
