Only current Carlsbad Unified School District employees who have passed their probationary period may apply. This is an open recruitment to establish an eligibility list to fill the current vacant position. The eligibility list will also be used to fill any vacancies which may occur within a period of one year, or until the eligibility list is depleted. The current vacancy works 4 hours per day, 12 months per year. The recruitment process will consist of a training and experience examination and a structured interview. Basic function: Under the direction of the Director-Information Systems and Technology, perform a variety of technical duties involved in the installation, configuration, operation, maintenance, troubleshooting, diagnosis, and repair of network, voice, data communication, and audio/visual systems, computers, equipment, hardware, and software; perform a variety of network support activities; provide technical user support. Essential duties and knowledge, skills, and abilities: Perform a variety of technical duties involved in the installation, configuration, operation, maintenance, troubleshooting, diagnosis, and repair of local and wide area networks, voice and data communication systems, computers, equipment, hardware, and software. Perform a variety of technical duties involved in the installation, configuration, operation, maintenance, troubleshooting, diagnosis, and repair of audio/visual systems, including projectors, cameras, broadcasting equipment, sound systems, intercoms, and related equipment. Perform a variety of network support activities, including establishing and maintaining user accounts, permissions, directories, passwords, group memberships, shared folders, email accounts, internet connectivity, and designated programs and systems; participate in system maintenance activities; participate in monitoring network security. Provide assistance to users to resolve hardware, software, and connectivity issues; respond to inquiries and provide technical information concerning related practices, techniques, and procedures; analyze, define, and correct issues with computer hardware, software, network, voice, and data communication systems and equipment. Communicate with personnel and various outside agencies to exchange information and resolve issues and concerns. Participate in the research, evaluation, development, and implementation of strategies for enhancement of voice and data communications, including upgrades to network hardware and software. Participate in the development and presentation of training to District personnel on the operation and use of computer hardware, software, network, audio/visual, voice and data communication systems and equipment. Maintain a variety of logs, records, forms, documentation, and reports related to assigned activities; maintain and update software licensing and subscriptions as assigned. Operate a variety of computers, servers, peripherals, equipment, and specialized software; drive a vehicle to conduct work. Install cables, wires, hubs, switches, routers, and other equipment for computer systems, networks, voice and data communication systems, audio/visual systems, and peripherals. Attend and participate in various meetings, training, and in-services as assigned. Other duties: Perform other related duties as assigned. Knowledge of: Practices, procedures, and techniques involved in the installation, configuration, operation, maintenance, troubleshooting, diagnosis, and repair of network, voice, data communication, and audio/visual systems, computers, equipment, hardware, and software. Principles, methods, and procedures of operating computers and peripheral equipment. Computer hardware systems, software applications, and networking standards utilized by the District. LAN and WAN usage and network terminology. Materials, methods, and tools used in the operation and repair of computer and network systems. General principles, practices, and procedures involved in networking. General components and capabilities of network hubs, switches, routers, servers, and cabling. Audio and video equipment and control systems. Interpersonal skills using tact, patience, and courtesy. Oral and written communication skills. Basic arithmetic. Basic research techniques. Record-keeping techniques. Ability to: Perform a variety of technical duties involved in the installation, configuration, operation, maintenance, troubleshooting, diagnosis, and repair of network, voice, and data communication systems, computers, equipment, hardware, and software. Troubleshoot, diagnose, and resolve issues with computers, networks, hardware, software, and related peripherals. Perform a variety of network administration activities including establishing and maintaining user accounts, passwords, security applications, email accounts, and internet connectivity. Install and assure proper operation of server and work station software. Maintain network security, servers, and databases. Communicate effectively both orally and in writing. Read and interpret technical equipment diagrams, specifications, manuals, schematics, and instructions. Maintain records, documentation, system support logs, equipment inventory, training materials, and documents related to technology operations. Learn and effectively use hardware and software utilized by the District. Learn and adapt to changing technologies. Meet schedules and timelines. Train and assist users of varying levels of technical experience and knowledge. Safely operate and maintain tools, equipment, and materials. Establish and maintain effective working relationships with others. Entrance qualifications: Any combination equivalent to: graduation from high school supplemented by course work in computer science or related field and three years of experience involving the installation, maintenance, and repair of network systems and related hardware, software, and equipment. Licenses and other requirements: Valid California driver's license. Selection process/additional information: Candidates who meet the minimum requirements, as demonstrated in their application materials, will be required to successfully complete a competitive testing process to measure the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to perform the essential functions of the job, which may consist of a written examination, a training and experience evaluation, a performance examination, and/or structured oral interviews. The candidates achieving the top three ranks of the appropriate eligibility list will be referred for a final selection interview. The Eligibility List resulting from this examination may be used to fill vacancies in related job classifications for which no Eligibility List exists (Ed Code 45272).
