Welcome to Warner Bros. Discovery… the stuff dreams are made of.

Overview

We are CNN. The world's most essential and engaging source of digital news. We are in the midst of rapid transformation and need our next generation of innovators, makers, and dreamers who will lead and drive our growth. We aim to make the world a better, more connected place.

We are seeking a visionary Vice President of Audience Insights & Strategy to lead the transformation of how we understand, engage, and grow our audiences across platforms. This executive role will oversee a newly expanded, dual-mandate organization responsible for driving long-term audience strategy and enabling real-time editorial decision-making with data-backed insight.

This is a senior leadership role that represents a step-change in how we orient around work and prioritization in support of our North Star Mission—in building habits, loyalty, and meaningful consumer experiences. The ideal candidate will bring a deep understanding of audience behavior, strong editorial sensibility, and a track record of partnering with newsroom, product, and platform leaders to operationalize strategy at scale.

Key Responsibilities

Strategic Leadership

  • Define and lead data-informed digital audience development frameworks, aligning audience growth, engagement, and retention objectives with editorial, platform, and product goals.
  • Orient the organization’s focus toward habit-forming content strategies driven by user needs and behavior.
  • Champion a consumer-centric editorial experience, ensuring decisions across touchpoints are aligned to long-term audience and business goals that balance near-term revenue and content monetization realities.

Organizational Oversight

  • Lead and expand a high-impact team that includes embedded Audience Editors across newsroom verticals to provide real-time audience insight, coverage guidance, and performance feedback.
  • A central Audience Strategy & Insights team that partners with Data to operationalize audience engagement frameworks, make databacked insights actionable, and support editorial content strategy.
  • Serve as a cross-functional partner to leaders in Editorial, Product, Marketing, Growth, and Data to create shared objectives and measurement frameworks.
  • Partner with other audience leaders to ensure cohesion across all platforms where users engage with CNN Insight & Execution.
  • Develop audience reports, frameworks, and workflows to support daily publishing, content planning, and programming strategies.
  • Lead the evolution of SEO and platform optimization strategies from tactical to strategic within a broader audience development approach.
  • Identify long-term behavioral trends and white-space opportunities for content development, packaging, and delivery.
  • Build deep cross-functional partnerships with interdependent functions like Global News, Editorial, Video, Product, Growth, etc.

Cultural Impact

  • Serve as the internal voice of the audience—making insights actionable, accessible, and embedded into everyday decision-making.
  • Drive organizational education and adoption of a modern audience mindset through training, onboarding, and leadership influence.
  • Inspire a culture of curiosity, experimentation, and shared success metrics across editorial and platform teams.

Qualifications

  • 7-10 years of experience in audience strategy, content analytics, editorial insights, or a related function in a digital media or content-driven organization.
  • Proven success partnering with editorial leaders to translate insight into action—shaping both real-time coverage and long-term content strategies.
  • Deep understanding of cross-platform user behavior across web, app, search, newsletters, social media, and streaming environments.
  • Demonstrated experience building and managing high-performing, multi-disciplinary teams.
  • Fluency in content performance analytics, habit-formation metrics (e.g., frequency, recency, retention), and editorial planning cycles.
  • Editorial judgment and strategic thinking that aligns data with brand, mission, and audience expectations.
  • Exceptional communication and stakeholder management skills, especially across matrixed organizations.
