Overview
Senior Advisor, Media Relations role at TC Energy, based in Washington, DC. This is a senior-level position reporting to the Senior Manager, Media Relations and collaborating with Business and Policy Communications, Government Relations, and Policy and Insights teams. What You’ll Do
Media Relations
Develop and execute comprehensive media relations plans and strategies that influence, inform and contextualize issues important to TC Energy’s projects, operations and reputation. Identify proactive opportunities to contribute to external conversations and pitch media. Provide strategic communication consultation to business partners to proactively deliver media relations solutions. Develop and maintain key media relationships, conduct proactive media engagement and perform spokesperson duties as required. Coordinate with the greater communications department to amplify our voice across internal and external channels. Develop a keen understanding of the business and monitor evolving trends in the energy industry and broader business environment. Proactively track and engage with traditional and new media. Provide media training, coaching and prepare subject matter experts for media opportunities. Crisis Communication
Support emergency response and crisis management and act as Public Information Officer as required. Occasionally be available for extended work hours outside of standard business hours and participate in on-call rotations. Minimum Qualifications
Post-secondary education in a related field. Six or more years of experience in a media relations, communications or journalism role. Proven experience in media relations, issues and reputation management, crisis communications and project management. Established media contacts, particularly in business and trade media and local/state media within the asset footprint. Demonstrated knowledge of current affairs, U.S. political and regulatory systems and policy development. Excellent writing skills and experience in developing communications and issues management plans. Strong understanding of the media landscape and ability to secure media coverage. Ability to work effectively under pressure and meet tight deadlines; excellent interpersonal skills and collaboration across teams. Preferred Qualifications
Experience in a media relations team for a public company. Public speaking experience. Digital communications and social media expertise. Understanding of the energy industry and its political environment. Ability to translate complex concepts into accessible language. Additional Information
Valid driver’s license and ability to provide a driver’s abstract for review. Eligibility to receive a valid passport and travel domestically and internationally (including USA and Mexico). Occasional overnight travel may be required. Hybrid work model and flexible dress code for eligible office-based workforce in Canada, the U.S. and Mexico. About Our Business
