Job Overview The Department of Mental Health, Center for Behavioral Medicine, is seeking a full time Recreation, Art, Music or Drama Therapist to join our interdisciplinary treatment team. This is an entry level professional position, responsible for assessing patients, performing treatment planning, facilitating groups and activities, and documentation. This position involves direct interaction with patients to help them learn and practice skills to improve daily living.
Job Duties
- Assess basic skill functioning related to services provided through the Rehabilitation Services Department.
- Plan and implement a wide range of treatment groups designed to meet social, emotional, cognitive and physical needs of patients.
- Confer with medical and interdisciplinary treatment teams.
- Organize, stimulate, and encourage participation in planned individual and group activities; conduct special seasonal events and programs.
- Supervise and/or train Activity Aides, volunteers, students, and direct care staff in recreational activities.
- Maintain an inventory of equipment and supplies used in programming.
Key Skills
- Ability to plan, conduct, and participate in therapeutic groups and activities.
- Ability to observe patients’ progress and prepare clear and concise reports.
- Ability to assess the effectiveness of therapeutic techniques and practices used in rehabilitation/treatment of patients.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff and patients.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree and 0-2 years of relevant experience. Substitutions may be allowed. Lack of post-secondary education will not be used as the sole basis of denying consideration to any applicant.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- No disciplinary action in the previous 12 months. (Applies to internal candidates only)
