My client is seeking a Specifications Writer to join the team. Experience with contracts, project management, and scheduling is preferred. The candidate should have experience in all aspects of architectural practice, including project planning, mentoring staff with building code knowledge, working with the client to identify critical design criteria, developing design in a collaborative environment, specification writing, and quality control with construction documents.
Responsibilities
- Reviews drawings and designs to ensure adherence to established specifications and standards.
- Supervise the preparation of design and architectural plans, check progress of design layouts, design documents and provide input to design schedules.
- Ensure adherence to codes and regulations.
- Mentor staff and serve as a reference source for junior team members; serve as the point of contact for all specification related questions.
- Contribute to managing and maintaining client design standards and guidelines.
- Provide positive feedback and demonstrate effective communication and direction to team members.
- Dedicate to creating quality processes and deliverables.
- Act as a technical resource for architectural staff, providing information on materials, products, finishes, code compliance and construction methods.
- Review architectural drawings to identify scope and content for specifications.
- Perform quality control review of drawings and specifications to provide feedback to project teams.
- Participate in reviews of construction submittals as related to project specifications.
- Assist project managers with the preparation of General and Supplemental Conditions and bidding documents.
- Direct consultants in the preparation of specifications in accordance with standards and project requirements.
Requirements
- Experience in construction document preparation and field observation, knowledge of building materials and current construction techniques and specifications.
- Working knowledge of Masterspec and/or Spec Link/Spec Point preferred.
- Must be a multi-tasker with strong organizational and word processing skills, reliable, dedicated to accuracy and able to work in a fast-paced environment.
- Excellent verbal and written communication, as well as time management skills.
- Working knowledge of industry and sustainability practices.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- High proficiency in Microsoft Office and Bluebeam; comfortable with technology. Revit skills are helpful but not required.
- Excellent problem solver and independent thinker with good listening skills, positive attitude, and strong follow-through.
- Strong verbal, organizational and collaborative skills.
- Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
Minimum Experience, Education, Certifications
- Minimum of 4-5 years of experience with Specifications.
