Overview

Sr. Technical Writer role at Alaka`ina Foundation Family of Companies (FOCs). Location: Orlando, FL. DoD program. This is a temporary position.

Responsibilities

  • Support technical data tracking, versioning, and lifecycle; be knowledgeable with assigned project writing specifications or standards.
  • Support DoD Technical Manual development and/or interactive electronic technical manuals (IETM).
  • Develop technical data leveraged from source data.
  • Deliver a high quality product on schedule and ensure final documentation clearly communicates technical information to appropriate audiences.
  • Ensure documents are developed in accordance with program specifications.
  • Collect and analyze technical information and data through researching and analyzing technical data and publications, engineering drawings, test procedures, design specifications/documentation, software description documents, and interviewing technical experts.
  • Work in a team environment, taking direction with minimal follow-up to complete a project.
  • Represent the organization as a subject matter expert (SME) on projects if necessary.
  • May be required to travel.
  • Support technical content development of Operation and Maintenance Manuals (O&M), Planned Maintenance System (PMS) and Commercial-Off-The-Shelf (COTS) Manual and Associated Supplemental Data.
  • Support technical content development of Engineering, Testing, and Logistics documents such as: Trainer Facility Report (TFR); Safety Assessment Report (SAR); Operations Security (OPSEC) and Cybersecurity Implementation Plan; Technical Report – Study/Services; Product Engineering Design Data and Associated Lists (PEDDAL); Engineering Data for Provisioning (EDFP); Bill of Materials (BOM) for Logistics and Supply Chain Risk Management; Equipment Inventory Records (EIRS); Software Development Plan (SDP); Risk Management Plan (RMP); Configuration Management Plan (CMP); Systems Engineering Management Plan (SEMP); Requirements Traceability Verification Matrix (RTVM); and Test And Evaluation Program Plan (TEPP).

Desired Skills and Experience

  • At least four (4) years’ experience as a technical writer of military specifications, standards, and technical manuals.
  • Experience with original writing or scientific/technical material requiring understanding of concepts, practices, and vocabulary of the field; ability to describe principles in clear language.
  • Technical understanding of military or commercial systems, and technical writing/editing principles; strong working knowledge of the development of technical manuals and documentation; and experience with computer-based tools for producing technical documentation.
  • Ability to grasp new concepts quickly; maintain confidentiality; strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work both independently and in a team environment.
  • Experience with Navy, Navy training systems, or Navy ships is preferred.
  • Experience with technical documentation and technical data packages (TDP) in-process reviews is preferred.
  • AutoCAD drafting experience is a plus.

Education and Certifications

  • Bachelor's degree in English, Journalism or similar discipline. Additional experience may substitute for a degree.

Citizenship and Clearance

  • Must be a US citizen.
  • Must have an active secret clearance.
