Join to apply for the Senior CADD Design Specialist role at WSP in the U.S. WSP is initiating a search for a Senior CADD Design Specialist for our San Diego, CA office with expertise in AutoCAD Civil 3D and experience with Revit and Bentley (Open Roads, InRoads, MicroStation) platforms to support our water practice. Your impact: The selected candidate will provide technical design and CADD support to engineers and project managers to set up CADD standards and sheets, produce designs, construction drawings, permitting drawings, and exhibits for the water business lines.
Responsibilities involve generating CADD designs on various assigned projects of moderate- to larger-scale, scope, and / or complexity. Generate accurate and concise design phase deliverables including reports, technical memoranda, design manuals, plans and profiles, models, sections, details, specifications, and material lists. The ideal candidate will deliver and adhere to a level of quality that meets or exceeds acceptable industry standards for design, accuracy, and functionality.
Responsibilities
Collect, compile, and analyze data from the physical work site, surveys, record drawings, GIS sources, structural concepts, blueprints, schematics, data, verbal or written specifications, technical drawings, rough sketches, diagrams, and other matrices to support drafting and design activities for single, multi-phase, or multi-site project work.
Utilize 3D computer-aided design and drafting (CADD) software to collaborate with engineers in resolving design details or discrepancies.
Follow AutoCAD Civil 3D design best practices to produce highly accurate designs.
Create and modify Pipe & Structure Catalogs, Plotting Files (CTB, STB), Pipe Networks, Alignments, Profiles & Profile Views, 3D grading of TIN surfaces, and Assemblies / Corridors.
Work with dynamic annotation labels for Civil 3D features and provide drafting/design support as needed on projects of moderate scope and complexity.
Collaborate with engineers, project managers, and other professionals via email, phone, and in-person interactions.
Verify accuracy of calculations, designs, change orders, and interpretation of plans and specifications, escalating or resolving differences or technical problems as needed.
Ensure plans adhere to applicable city, state, and federal codes & regulations; monitor drafting and design plans for quality control and contract compliance.
Prepare multiple design concepts or alternatives for review and provide guidance/training to entry-level drafting staff as needed.
Remain current in drafting and design practices; uphold safety policies and company code of conduct; travel as project requirements may necessitate.
Provide support for project phases, tasks, and quality control checks with cross-functional teams.
Qualifications Required Qualifications
High School Diploma; Associate degree from an accredited institution in computer aided design or equivalent.
Minimum of 9 years of relevant post-education experience in drafting and design.
Experience in AutoCAD Civil 3D.
Well-defined knowledge of drafting and design support principles, practices, and techniques; familiarity with local drainage / water / wastewater CADD standards in California.
Knowledge of applicable codes, regulations, and record-keeping requirements in California.
Ability to perform technical computations, interpret plans, and compare against applicable standards.
Analytical mindset with sound judgment; strong interpersonal and communication skills for technical and non-technical audiences.
Proficiency in technical writing, office software, Bluebeam for design review, and CAD automation tools & techniques.
Ability to learn new techniques, multitask, follow instructions, work independently, and adhere to company policies.
Safety-conscious with a proven track record of workplace safety and ability to follow policies.
Ability to work schedules that may extend beyond the typical workweek; occasional travel may be required.
Preferred Qualifications
— Bachelor’s degree in a closely related discipline; essential professional licensure/certification; experience with AutoCAD Civil 3D, Revit, and Bentley (Open Roads, InRoads, MicroStation) in stormwater/water/wastewater; CSO project experience.
Compensation Note:
Expected Salary: $73,102 - $127,930. WSP USA provides the compensation range that the company in good faith believes it might pay and offer for this position, based on the successful applicant’s education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities, in addition to internal equity and location. WSP USA reserves the right to pay more or less than the posted range and to offer additional benefits and compensation depending on circumstances not related to applicant demographics.
