The Director of Executive Communications and Media Relations at the Chan Zuckerberg Initiative plays a pivotal role in shaping and executing communications strategies that enhance the organization’s mission. This position requires developing trust and engagement with a diverse audience through proactive communication planning and storytelling. Reporting directly to the Head of Brand and Communications, the Director collaborates closely with senior leadership to optimize strategic communications and media strategies across CZI’s various initiatives. The role involves representing CZI in media engagements, delivering insightful content for key stakeholders, and managing crisis communications efficiently. Responsibilities
Increase understanding of CZI’s impact among key audiences through proactive, integrated communication planning, thought leadership content development, and active, ongoing media relations. Advance and execute the positioning strategy for senior leaders, including developing messaging platforms and evaluating speaking and media engagements. Anticipate and mitigate crisis communication issues by monitoring the landscape and developing response plans. Collaborate with senior leaders to coordinate integrated executive communications optimized for consistency and impact. Serve as CZI spokesperson and prepare other spokespeople as needed. Provide strategic guidance and consultation with cross-functional teams and executives. Manage agency partners and consultants in support of the communications portfolio. Requirements
10+ years experience as a senior-level communications practitioner with media relations expertise. People management experience, including management of outside agencies or contractors. Experience advising senior leaders and executives. Crisis and issues management experience. Outstanding writing and editing skills suitable for various communication channels. Passion for CZI’s mission and the ability to work collaboratively in a dynamic environment. Benefits
