Overview
The New City Library is seeking an individual with both customer service and tech skills to join our friendly Support Services staff. Working under the general direction and supervision of the department head, the successful candidate will be capable of performing routine paraprofessional duties in the Library. Employees in this support position provide direct customer service, perform clerical duties, and assist in all levels of materials acquisition, processing, and maintenance.
Qualifications
- High School diploma or equivalent.
- Excellent communication skills both oral and written.
- Computer and keyboard skills.
- Pleasant and effective interpersonal skills.
- Creative problem solving skills.
- Ability to exercise discretion, use good judgment, and maintain confidentiality.
- Cash and credit card handling skills.
- Understanding of contemporary public library service principles and practices.
- Basic mathematical skills.
- Ability to learn various software applications used in the library, including the Koha ILS.
- Ability to sort numerically and alphabetically.
- Ability to work assigned schedule.
- Physically capable of bending, lifting, reaching, and pushing loaded book carts.
Schedule, Benefits, and Compensation
- Work hours: Mondays 9am-1pm, Wednesdays 9am-2pm, Fridays 1-6pm, and the second and fourth Saturdays of every month 9am-5pm.
- Benefits include optional membership in the New York State Retirement System, a 403(b) plan, the NYS Deferred Compensation 457(b) plan, plus vacation, personal, and sick leave.
- The position is union-affiliated with NYSUT.
- Pay starts at $21.57/hour and is negotiable based on experience.
