Associate Assignment Editor
Fox Weather is America's Weather Team, and we are seeking a confident, highly motivated, and proactive Associate Assignment Editor to join our newsroom. This role is critical in the coordination of real-time weather news coverage across all platforms. You will work closely with our Programming, Content Core & Field teams to coordinate breaking weather events, select compelling live visuals, and support dynamic storytelling as we cover weather news. You are organized, thrive in a fast-paced environment, and inquisitive with both strong logistical skills and a passion for covering weather news. Prior experience pitching, researching, writing, and building editorial elements in a collaborative team setting is key.
You will be offered the following shift:
Saturday-Wednesday, 5:00 AM ET - 2:00 PM ET OR 2:00 PM ET - 11:00 PM ET
A Snapshot Of Your Responsibilities:
- Conduct in-depth research and compile well-rounded reports for our field teams
- Manage daily deadline turnarounds of a live show environment
- Monitor and coordinate contributor feeds and resources
- Handle field team logistics including but not limited to crew resource requests, live hit bookings on FOX Weather, Fox News Media and FOX Affiliates
- Coordinate with live field teams, technical crews, and the satellite desk to ensure that incoming feeds from weather sources are given priority to secure the most comprehensive coverage
- Communicate with officials and sources for editorial information
- Monitor both traditional and social media for breaking weather news stories
- Pitch unique and interesting guests, stories, and segments
- Help find stunning live visuals to support all platforms, sourcing from third-party sources and UGC
- Select elements such as sound, video clips, and graphics to help tell a story
- Build relationships with Assignment Desks at FOX Affiliates and other news service partners across FOX News Media
What You Will Need:
- A bachelor's degree in journalism, communications, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
- Some TV newsgathering, assignment desk, or field production experience.
- Strong editorial judgment and the ability to react quickly to breaking news.
- Ability to solve problems quickly, stay calm under pressure, and adapt rapidly to changing conditions.
- Willingness to work early mornings, late nights, and weekends
- Ability to meet tight deadlines and manage multiple tasks without sacrificing accuracy.
- An interest in meteorology and weather science concepts
- Previous network-level or national newsroom experience.
- Familiarity with newsroom systems such as iNews, DALET, or similar editorial tools
Pursuant to state and local pay disclosure requirements, the pay rate/range for this role, with final offer amount dependent on education, skills, experience, and location is $67,000.00-80,000.00 annually. This role is also eligible for various benefits, including insurance, a 401(k) plan, paid time off, and other benefits in accordance with applicable plan documents. Benefits for Union represented employees will be in accordance with the applicable collective bargaining agreement.
