Deputy Personal Finance Editor - Insurance at WSJ | Buy Side. We are seeking an experienced insurance editor with a keen eye for detail to edit and write insurance coverage for a consumer audience. This deputy editor will help simplify complex insurance topics and provide readers with actionable information.

The candidate must have experience editing and writing articles on insurance products, strong knowledge of insurance policies, and the ability to break down sometimes complicated topics in a way that is interesting, accurate, relevant and distinctive.

The successful candidate will have experience reporting and editing on topics such as pet, auto, life, business, travel, homeowners and renters.

About WSJ | Buy Side: Dow Jones’s reviews and recommendations site is independent of The Wall Street Journal newsroom and is dedicated to helping consumers make smart decisions about how to spend their time and money.

About the Role: This editor will ensure that articles meet high quality standards of journalism while responsibly guiding readers. This editor will have a keen eye for detail and will be responsible for first-look copy edits as well as regularly updating articles. This role is part of the WSJ | Buy Side editorial team.

You Will:

  • Give insurance articles thorough edits, and work closely with staff insurance writers to ensure accuracy and adherence to the Buy Side Style Guide.
  • Maintain evergreen articles through regular updates to ensure relevancy for a WSJ audience.
  • Collaborate with the editorial and commerce teams on article lineups for future months to ensure relevancy for the WSJ audience.
  • Write and edit content that upholds editorial standards to deliver independent and unbiased reporting.
  • Ensure accuracy and journalistic standards for all content.
  • Develop an understanding of the WSJ.com audience to ensure articles are properly serving our readers’ needs.

You Have:

  • 5+ years of personal finance reporting/editing experience.
  • Strong understanding of SEO best practices and content optimization techniques.
  • Experience working in a fast-paced, high-volume environment, while delivering quality content.
  • Ability to identify problems in copy quickly and clearly communicate changes needed, suggesting specific edits and wording.
  • Recommend linking opportunities to recent WSJ news articles where topics align.
  • Ensure accuracy and journalistic standards for all content.
  • Familiarity with affiliate revenue operations is preferred.
  • Insurance agent license is a plus but not required.

Pay Range: $95,000 - $120,000
