Position Summary
The Executive Weather Producer position is critical to The Weather Channel's mission of delivering timely, accurate, and engaging weather information to its audience. This role exists to elevate the quality and impact of our weather content production, ensuring that our meteorological expertise is translated into compelling narratives and visually stunning presentations for a non-scientific audience. As a key leader within the Weather Presentation department, the Executive Weather Producer will bridge the gap between our scientific meteorological teams and our consumer-facing platforms, collaborating closely with editorial, on-camera meteorologists and broadcast teams to ensure seamless integration and consistent messaging across all channels.
Responsibilities
- Lead content production: Oversee the creation of compelling, accurate, and engaging weather content across platforms, ensuring accessibility for non-scientific audiences.
- Expert storytelling: Craft captivating narratives that transform complex meteorological data into relatable, impactful stories. Disseminate weather stories specifics to the editorial team.
- Team leadership: Manage, mentor, and grow a team of weather producers, fostering a culture of innovation and excellence.
- Visual innovation: Leverage expertise in weather graphics systems to develop best-in-class visual content using the latest technology.
- Cross-functional collaboration: Partner with editorial teams to ensure seamless, high-quality weather coverage that aligns with The Weather Channel's mission to protect property and save lives.
- Strategic vision: Drive creative strategies to elevate weather communication, keeping content fresh, relevant, and engaging.
- Planner: Assist in the planning of preemption decisions based on forecast confidence and programming needs.
- Science exploration: Research and organize science-based content independently and proactively. Interpret and analyze meteorological data to develop unique takeaways that enhance weather stories.
Education, Experience, Certification Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in meteorology, atmospheric science, or a related field.
- 7 years of meteorological experience, including 7 years of weather content production experience.
- Proven expertise in translating complex weather data into clear, engaging content for non-scientific audiences.
- Exceptional writing, producing, and storytelling skills with a creative, innovative mindset.
- Deep knowledge of weather graphics systems and proficiency in leveraging cutting-edge visualization tools.
- Strong leadership experience with a track record of managing and developing high-performing teams.
- Passion for weather, storytelling, and audience engagement, with a collaborative spirit to work across teams.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Strong ability to communicate orally and verbally. Ability to disseminate complex meteorological information in a usable and understandable manner.
- Extensive weather graphics application experience.
- Possesses exceptional interpersonal and teamwork skills.
- Knowledge of social media and its role in the information and content gathering process.
- Informed on AI advancements in the field and apply them as solutions to network priorities.
- Ability to manage multiple projects, involving cross-functional teams, in an efficient manner.
- Ability to manage weather producers and senior weather producers.
- Exhibits creative problem-solving skills and unique resourcefulness in order to complete tasks.
- Quickly learns and applies new technologies.

- Ability to write scripts.
