Overview
The strategic, mission-driven Director of Development plans and implements a comprehensive fundraising program and the corresponding strategies to meet Mujeres’ financial goals by building relationships with donors, managing campaigns, and coordinating with the CEO and board of directors. Key responsibilities include identifying funding opportunities, overseeing grant writing and special events, managing fundraising databases, and ensuring strong donor engagement and organizational growth. Chicago, IL (Hybrid) Responsibilities
Lead and implement a comprehensive fundraising strategy across government, individual, corporate, and foundation giving. Sustain and grow $4–5M in government funding, while expanding individual donor and major gift programs. Oversee signature fundraising events (Voces Unidas and Baile de las Calaveras) with support from staff and consultants. Directly supervise Associate Director of Events & Communications, Associate Director of Policy & Advocacy, & Lead Grant Manager, providing mentorship, fostering collaboration, accountability, and innovation. Partner with the Controller on financial planning and compliance, and with the VP of Programs to align funding with programmatic priorities. Engage the Board of Directors and volunteer councils in donor cultivation and stewardship. Other duties as assigned. Qualifications
Qualifications & Skills 5+ years of progressive development experience, including 3+ years managing government grants/contracts and major gifts. Proven success in securing and managing multi-year government and private funding. Strong leadership, team management, and relationship-building skills. Excellent writing, communication, and strategic planning abilities. Commitment to racial and gender equity and Mujeres’ mission. Bilingual (Spanish/English) strongly preferred. Experience with Latine, immigrant, or social justice organizations highly desirable. Education & Certifications Bachelor’s degree with 5+ years’ experience in communications, public relations, and/or event management. Masters in related fields, preferred. Physical Requirements & Working Conditions
This position has a hybrid work schedule which includes weekly in office presence. Standard office environment. Must be able to occasionally lift items weighing up to 20 lbs. Travel to other Mujeres office locations. Work evenings and weekends as needed. Salary
