Overview

The Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders (CSD), within the Hairston College of Health and Human Sciences at North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University, seeks a department Chair. The Chair is a 12-month position reporting to the Dean and serves as the chief administrative and academic leader of the department. The Chair provides visionary leadership for innovative programs with an educator-researcher emphasis, oversees the department, and leads strategic planning, budget development and management, faculty and student recruitment and retention, development, curriculum improvement, faculty performance evaluation, program assessment and accreditation activities, fundraising, and collaboration with other departments and university leadership. The Chair will implement strategies to increase recruitment, retention, and graduation rates across all degree programs and work with faculty to develop research infrastructure.

The Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders offers two areas of emphasis: (i) Speech Language Pathology and Audiology and (ii) Health Communication Studies. The department focuses on serving students and the local and professional communities through clinical practice, internships, research, and community service. Faculty are diverse in education and research, with emphasis on collaboration within the department, the college, and the university.

Minimum Requirements

  • A PhD in Communication Sciences and Disorders, Speech and Language Pathology, Health Communication, or closely related degree with a significant research track record aligned with appointment at the associate or full professor rank.
  • Prior teaching experience in relevant baccalaureate and/or graduate programs.
  • Three years of teaching and research experience at a comparable institution.
  • Three years of experience in academic administration.
  • Ability to establish and sustain a strong research enterprise and pedagogical skills to teach in areas such as healthcare economics, healthcare finance, data analytics, healthcare quality and patient safety, and health information management.
