Overview
Miami University Libraries seeks an Acquisitions Librarian; Assistant Librarian or Associate Librarian who is flexible, forward-thinking, and detail-oriented for the Access and Borrow Department. The successful candidate will manage a $4 million acquisitions budget and oversee purchasing and licensing physical and electronic formats. Working in a team environment, the Acquisitions Librarian will serve as an active member with other parties (library, university) to support library collections. The position carries responsibilities for scholarly activities and professional service for promotion and continuing contract.
Responsibilities
- Manage and ensure efficient and effective workflows for acquiring materials, including gifts program.
- Work with subject librarians to purchase and/or replace appropriate materials and serve on collections management committee.
- Oversee acquisitions accounting and budgeting including fiscal records maintenance and audit requirements.
- Create and maintain departmental documentation of policies, procedures, and operational materials.
- Build and maintain relationships with vendors including serving as administrator for GOBI and other vendor platforms.
- Review and negotiate new license agreements in collaboration with campus partners.
- Contribute to ongoing integration of departmental staff through training on acquisitions-related aspects, data analysis, and/or automation.
- Maintain and enhance professional skills through regular and meaningful professional development activities.
- Pursue an active career path contributing to the field of academic librarianship.
- Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
- Masters degree from an ALA-accredited Library and Information Science Program, or international equivalent; Appointment as Associate Librarian requires an established record of service and scholarship as described in the requirements.
Experience / Consideration
- Consideration may be given to candidates with experience with acquisitions, license negotiations, electronic resources, and/or technical services in academic institutions.
- Experience with Ex Libris’s Alma, EBSCO Holdings Management.
- Experience with acquisitions in a consortial environment.
