Overview
The Department of English at Rutgers University, New Brunswick, invites applications for a full or distinguished professor in queer theory and twentieth century literature. We particularly welcome applications from scholars with extraordinary research profiles that combine publishing strength in literary method and theory with commitments to the disciplinary history of queer theory within English and its interdisciplinary links to Sociology and Women’s, Gender and Sexuality Studies. The ideal candidate would have a proven record of graduate student mentorship and institutional leadership. The appointment is expected to begin on September 1, 2026. All job offers are contingent upon successful pre-employment background screening prior to commencement of employment. Applicants must have demonstrated a commitment to effective teaching and mentoring. The successful candidate will have a 2-2 course load and teach a range of literature and theory courses at both the undergraduate and graduate levels.
Responsibilities
- Teach a 2-2 course load and a range of literature and theory courses at both undergraduate and graduate levels.
- Demonstrate graduate student mentorship and institutional leadership.
- Prepare and contribute to teaching statements and related materials as part of the application process.
- Engage in scholarly activities in queer theory and twentieth-century literature and contribute to the department and university’s mission.
Qualifications
- The successful candidate must have a Ph.D. at the time of appointment.
- Demonstrated commitment to effective teaching and mentoring.
Salary and Benefits
- The academic year salary for a full professor will not be less than $95,764, based on the most recent collective bargaining agreement between the faculty union (AAUP-AFT) and Rutgers University.
- The final salary offer may be determined by factors including qualifications, experience, expertise, and availability of department or grant funds.
