Basic Function

Kern Community College District accepts applications for part-time, hourly faculty pools on a continuous basis. This allows the division to contact qualified applicants immediately if a need arises, without waiting for a new advertisement. Applicants who meet the minimum requirements will be contacted by department supervisors, deans, or division chairs. Applications remain active for up to two years.

The district is seeking part-time, hourly adjunct instructors in music. The starting salary is $60.00/hour, with potential variation based on assignment type and the LHE formula. Refer to the CCA collective bargaining agreement or college HR for more details.

Representative Duties

The successful applicant will provide instruction in a range of music courses, which may include teaching at various campus sites, day/evening/weekend classes, large classes, distance learning, and employing multiple teaching methodologies. Other duties include student recruitment, articulation of transfer programs, curriculum development and revision, use of multimedia technology, and participation in professional activities.

Minimum Qualifications

Master's in Music;

OR - Bachelor's in Music AND Master's in Humanities;

OR - Valid credential authorizing full-time teaching of Music at California Community Colleges;

or the equivalent, with supporting documentation required for equivalency requests. Candidates should demonstrate sensitivity to diverse backgrounds.

Degrees must be from accredited institutions, and foreign degrees require evaluation by a recognized service.

Knowledge & Abilities

Candidates should demonstrate broad knowledge in music and the ability to work effectively with colleagues and students, develop curricula, participate in recruitment activities, communicate effectively, maintain subject matter currency, assess student outcomes, and utilize technology. Commitment to the mission of California community colleges is essential.
