The Payload and Ground Systems organization within Space Systems pushes the boundaries of engineering to develop, design, produce, and sustain optimized product lines and provide a decisive advantage to the mission. We are seeking a Principal UX Engineer - Researcher / Designer (T03) to join our team. The role involves contributing to the design and research of human-centered systems, applying user experience methods to features, workflows, and system modules to ensure usability, consistency, and mission effectiveness. You will plan and execute user research activities, create prototypes and wireframes, and collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver intuitive and efficient solutions. You will work independently and as part of a UX team, contributing to style guide compliance, usability studies, and agile development processes. You will have the ability to perform UX research independently, UX design independently, or a combination of both depending on program needs. This includes planning and executing user studies, developing wireframes and prototypes, and applying human factors principles to system design. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to support agile development, ensure compliance with style guides, and deliver user-centered solutions that enhance mission outcomes. The ideal candidate has a strong technical grounding in human factors / UX methodologies and thrives on translating user needs into actionable design deliverables. This position can be located in Redondo Beach, CA, Aurora CO, or Colorado Springs, CO. Responsibilities Contribute to the design and research of human-centered systems. Apply user experience methods to features, workflows, and system modules to ensure usability, consistency, and mission effectiveness. Plan and execute user research activities; create prototypes and wireframes; collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver intuitive and efficient solutions. Work independently or as part of a UX team; contribute to style guide compliance, usability studies, and agile development processes. Operate in roles that may involve UX research independently, UX design independently, or a combination of both, depending on program needs. Plan and execute user studies; develop wireframes and prototypes; apply human factors principles to systems design. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to support agile development and ensure compliance with style guides; deliver user-centered solutions that enhance mission outcomes. Translate user needs into actionable design deliverables; actively participate in design reviews and feedback loops. Basic Qualifications 5 years of relevant experience with a Bachelor's degree in STEM; 3 years with a Master's; 1 year with a PhD in STEM Active Secret clearance at time of application Experience with user-centered design (UCD) principles, research methodologies, and usability testing Knowledge of user engagement processes and ability to apply them to support user experience products and feedback gathering Portfolio showcasing user-centered design solutions for web applications (attached/linked on application or resume) Ability to translate complex requirements and user needs into intuitive and effective design solutions Proficiency with design and prototyping tools (e.g., Axure, Lunacy, Adobe Suite, Lucid, Figma) Strong communication, collaboration, and presentation skills with cross-functional teams Experience designing in an agile software development environment Experience with Human Factors Analyses (Task Analyses, Predictive Workload Analyses, Usability studies, Workload, Situational Awareness surveys) Experience building and maintaining a style guide and design system Experience with visual design (typography, symbols, layout) and UX/UI development methods (e.g., personas, heuristic evaluations) Ability to travel ~10% for user engagement visits or usability testing Preferred Qualifications Familiarity with MIL-STD-1472 (DoD Design Criteria for Human Engineering) Experience designing applications for military users Mastery of design and prototyping tools (e.g., Figma, Lucid) Familiarity with Systems Engineering Familiarity with software development languages #J-18808-Ljbffr
