The California Post is seeking a driven, well-sourced City Hall Reporter to cover the personalities, politics, and policies that shape life in the nation's second-largest city. Los Angeles' City Hall is a place of power, conflict, and intrigue, and this reporter will be at the center of it all breaking news, developing enterprise stories, and connecting the dots for readers on how decisions inside City Hall impact their daily lives.
This is a high-profile role that requires tenacity, creativity, and the ability to cultivate and maintain deep sources across the city's political ecosystem. The right candidate thrives in a competitive environment, understands how to set the agenda on local politics, and can write in the Post's signature sharp, engaging style.
Responsibilities:
- Cover Los Angeles City Hall as your primary beat, reporting on the mayor, city council, and city agencies.
- Break news and develop enterprise stories that set the agenda for coverage of Los Angeles politics.
- Cultivate and maintain sources across political, business, and advocacy circles.
- File multiple stories per week, from breaking news briefs to longer enterprise pieces.
- Pitch scoops, exclusives, and story ideas with an eye for what will resonate with local and national audiences.
- Collaborate with colleagues across beats to provide broader context on California politics.
- Use data, documents, and public records to strengthen and deepen reporting.
- Appear on camera and across social platforms to discuss and promote your stories.
Requirements:
- Minimum of 5 years of newsroom reporting experience, with at least some of that covering politics, government, or City Hall.
- A proven ability to develop and maintain sources who provide unique insights and access.
- Strong news judgment, writing chops, and ability to turn stories quickly.
- Experience working in a competitive, fast-paced newsroom environment.
- A collaborative approach and passion for telling stories that matter to readers.
- A strong social media presence or following is preferred.
- On-camera experience strongly preferred reporters should be comfortable discussing and presenting stories on video, podcasts, and other formats to help extend our journalism across digital and social platforms.

Note: The New York Post adheres to a hybrid work model. This role will be expected to report into the office 4 days per week (subject to change depending on business needs) when not in the field.
Pay Range: $75,000 - $95,000
