Managing Editor

Sweetwater, the nation's number one online retailer of music instruments and pro audio gear, is seeking to add a Managing Editor to our growing Product Marketing team! In this role, you will oversee and lead the writing, editorial, and SweetCare teams, ensuring the content and messaging are accurate, engaging, and true to the Sweetwater Voice. This includes assigning and coordinating the building of Product Detail Pages, SweetCare articles, inSync articles, and all print publications.

As the Managing Editor, you will look at each writer's workload and prioritizes the completion of Product Detail Pages, SweetCare articles, inSync articles, and other projects based on the company's current priorities. You will also work closely with Merchandising and the Digital Assets teams (including Product Photography) to coordinate the flow of information and assets to the writing and specs team to expedite the efficient building of Product Detail Pages.

Job Responsibilities

  • Assign out item IDs to the writers for Product Detail Page completion based on business needs
  • Coordinate the scheduling of inSync and SweetCare articles to be written by the writing team
  • Collaborate with Merchandising and Digital Assets/Product Photography to acquire information and assets for PDFs
  • Oversee written content for ProGear and other print catalogs
  • Audit new and existing content for voice
  • Hire and manage new writers and editors as the team continues to grow
  • Lead, guide, and drive the writing team to authoritatively provide expertly written content to our online customers and consumers
  • Conduct regular meetings and one-on-ones with direct reports on the writing teams, cultivating an atmosphere of trust among team members

Qualifications

  • Must have a deep understanding of audio technology and music instruments
  • Ability to craft, edit, and audit creative content that is both engaging and authoritative
  • 2-4 + years of leading teams of writers creating written content, ideally in an eCommerce or retail environment
  • Bachelor's Degree in English, Communications, Writing, or related field
  • 5-7+ years of experience in previous copywriting roles
  • Ability to effectively lead and manage assignment workflow for the writing teams
