Communication Specialist - Full Time - Nights

Focused on patient access and flow, the Communication Specialist works with an interdisciplinary team to connect patients, physicians and nurses with resources within the Cape Fear Valley health system and external facilities. With a focus on physician to physician linkage for patient transfers and resource allocation of the Cape Fear Valley air and ground ambulances, Communication Specialists meet the dynamic needs of the system to assure patients receive the care they need.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate patient access and flow within the health system and with external facilities.
  • Facilitate physician-to-physician linkage for patient transfers.
  • Coordinate resource allocation for air and ground ambulance services.
  • Support operations to ensure patients receive timely care and that system capacity and bed availability are considered.

Qualifications

  • EMS dispatch experience, medical terminology and aviation terminology preferred.
  • Current and valid North Carolina EMT certification or equivalent preferred (e.g., Nursing Assistant, Military Medic or Certified Medical Assistant).
  • Completion of NIMS 100, 200, 700 within 90 days of hire.
  • Experience in EMS, EMS dispatch, medical terminology, and the air medical industry is a plus.
  • Working knowledge of emergency medical procedures, equipment and supplies used in pre-hospital care, and of communications equipment used.
  • Ability to work calmly under extremely stressful conditions and follow established procedures and protocols.
  • Strong understanding of how to move patients through the health system with knowledge of capacity and bed availability.
  • Working knowledge of EPIC, Advance Dispatch, Microsoft Office Suite and Microsoft Outlook preferred.
  • Typing speed of at least 40 words per minute.
  • Ability to hear and speak clearly; visual acuity correctable to 20/40; manual dexterity for keyboard work; ability to tolerate sitting for long periods.
