At Motif Dept, we work collaboratively to enhance the creative landscape and empower innovative voices.

Role Description

This is a contract role for a Chief Creative Officer (CCO) located in the Los Angeles Metropolitan Area, with some flexibility for remote work. The CCO will be responsible for providing creative direction, developing branding strategies, formulating creative strategies, and overseeing art direction. The role also includes leading marketing initiatives and managing creative teams to achieve project goals.

What you\'ll do

  • Set the creative vision for Motif projects across music, film/video, branding, and marketing—from concept to delivery.
  • Build the creative platform for each project (North Star, pillars, narrative) and translate it into style bibles (image, motion, type-in-use, grade, sound).
  • Author and present treatments for hero films/commercials, music videos, key art, and integrated campaigns.
  • Chair creative reviews and greenlight with Production and Brand leads; protect the taste bar.
  • Direct on set as needed; supervise post for look/grade, edit rhythm, sound/score alignment.
  • Partner with: Head of Audio, Head of Film & Video, Brand Director (Identity & Design), MD Marketing, and Creative Tech to keep execution aligned.
  • Help package select film/series projects (lookbooks, pitch decks, teasers) for Distribution outreach.
  • Build and nurture the extended creative network (directors, photographers, designers, stylists).

Who You Are

  • 6–10+ years leading creative direction in studio/agency/label/production environments.
  • Portfolio shows shipped campaigns, music videos/films, brand identities, and strong taste.
  • Fluent in production: camera/lighting basics, edit/grade/sound workflows.
  • Excellent at pitching (decks in Keynote/Slides/Figma; visual references; writing).
  • Culture-literate; comfortable guiding artists and brands.
  • Organized under pressure; clear with feedback.

Terms

  • Unpaid, contract collaboration. Time is flexible and project-based. Credits on all work; access to Motif resources (studio where available). Project-specific rev-share/points may be offered on select greenlit projects.
  • This engagement is not employment; no wages or benefits are implied.
