Overview
The Maine Legislature’s Law and Legislative Reference Library, a nonpartisan staff office of the Legislative Council, is seeking applicants for the position of full-time LIBRARY ASSISTANT. This position provides circulation services to library users, collects articles for the library’s news collection, updates the library’s serial publications, and performs clerical duties which support the library’s public services and resources. Employees in this position work in our Augusta library, are enthusiastic about public service and supporting the work of the Maine legislature, and conduct themselves in a highly confidential, professional, and nonpartisan manner. Overtime may be required during the legislative session.

The position provides circulation services to library users, collects articles for the library’s news collection, updates the library’s serial publications, and performs clerical duties which support the library’s public services and resources.
Qualifications
- The successful candidate will possess a high school diploma (bachelor’s degree strongly preferred); at least one year of library experience.
- Demonstrated competence in common computer applications, such as word processing, spreadsheets, and document scanning.
- Possess excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
- Possess the ability to climb stairs frequently and occasionally lift or move library materials up to 25 pounds.
Salary and Benefits
The salary range for this position is $41,454.40 to $56,992.00. The bi-weekly dollar values of some State-paid benefits for full-time employees include $15.22 for dental insurance; 14.11% of employee’s pay towards retirement; and at least 85% ($494.07) of health insurance premiums.
