Publicity Director, Storehouse Voices - (Hybrid)
Storehouse Voices is seeking a Publicity Director to create, oversee, and execute strategies for author promotions (including tours, reviews, media coverage, and long-lead pitching) for a rapidly growing list of fiction and nonfiction works. Reporting to the Associate Publisher, this person will work closely with authors and their agents, as well as our publishing, editorial, and marketing teams, and Penguin Random House’s corporate sales and communications colleagues. Additionally, the Publicity Manager will cultivate relationships with readers and influencers and work closely with booksellers and external partners to identify promotional opportunities for books across the Storehouse Voices catalog.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and implement campaigns to promote 10–15 titles per year across traditional media, digital, and social channels.
- Design and execute campaigns that raise imprint and team visibility, securing coverage in features, news articles, and podcasts.
- Collaborate with Storehouse Voices leadership on imprint branding and liaise with Penguin Random House stakeholders on cross-divisional opportunities.
- Design and curate book launch events, author tours, and promotional activities for multiple authors.
- Brainstorm publicity campaigns to secure media coverage across print, broadcast, and online outlets.
- Build and maintain relationships with media contacts, reviewers, journalists, bloggers, and influencers.
- Pitch and secure media interviews, features, reviews, and other coverage.
- Write and distribute press releases, media kits, and publicity materials.
- Secure national and regional TV, print, radio, and online coverage.
- Plan long-lead pitches to national contacts and book clubs (Oprah, Reese, GMA, Read With Jenna/Today Show).
- Plan and book national multi-city book tours with events in bookstores, libraries, and other venues.
- Prepare title campaign budgets and track seasonal expenses.
- Collaborate on long-term strategies for authors, brands, and series with colleagues in hardcover and trade paperback.
- Coach and prepare talent for public appearances and media interviews; accompany authors to events.
- Monitor media coverage and compile press clippings and reports for stakeholders.
- Provide guidance on content to the community manager to maintain brand voice and identity.
- Surface anniversaries and news for social posts; initiate acquisitions analysis and audience insights as needed; review reports to inform campaigns.
- Review engagement and influencer requests to drive future strategy.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field, or equivalent professional experience and training.
- 7+ years of experience in book publishing, marketing, or publicity, preferably in the adult trade market.
- Proven track record of developing and executing successful promotional campaigns.
- Strong understanding of digital marketing, social media, and emerging trends.
- Familiarity with influencer marketing, partnerships, and online engagement strategies.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Creative thinker with the ability to generate new ideas and approaches.
- Passion for books and understanding of the publishing industry and evolving media landscape.
This NYC-based role is hybrid, with in-office responsibilities for a minimum of two days a week at 1745 Broadway, New York, NY. We will consider candidates who can work from a commutable distance.
The salary range for this role is $100,000 – $115,000. All positions are eligible for annual profit or bonus, subject to company results.
