Pay Grade Range: $72,032-$126,056. Work Hours: 9:00am-5:30pm; Senate floor dependent. FLSA Status: Non-Exempt. Remote Work Status: Onsite.

Job Description
The Broadcast Technician sets up and operates a variety of video, audio, lighting, chyron, and other related television equipment. The incumbent provides technical support to live and recorded studio productions, live committee broadcasts and live Senate proceedings. Maintains a high level of competency to ensure a quality production. This role has direct contact with Senators and their staff. Also participates in Continuity of Operations (COOP) related activities, including training, drills, and SAA exercises.
Key Accountabilities / Essential Job Duties
- Operates a variety of video, audio, lighting and other production-related equipment and systems; transports equipment when necessary.
- Provides technical support to clients in televised production of Senate proceedings, Senate Committee, and Senate Recording Studio in-house productions.
- Fields requests for production requirements for video and audio productions; performs recording, playback and duplication of audio and video programs; manages automated video recording and logging systems; conducts post-production tasks.
- Other duties as assigned.
Job Specifications
Required Education
Bachelors Degree in radio and television production, graphic design.
Required Work Experience
- One to three years of experience with audio and video broadcast and recording equipment, or graphic design.
Required Special Skills / Knowledge
- Knowledge of operational and maintenance characteristics of broadcast equipment used to produce live or recorded productions.
- Knowledge of techniques used to produce live or recorded television productions.
- Knowledge of pre- and post-production techniques.
- Knowledge of safety precautions normally associated with broadcast and recording studio work.
- Ability to set up and operate a variety of audio and video production equipment.
- Ability to set up video teleconferencing software for use in live television.
- Ability to coordinate production requirements and meet deadlines.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with supervisor, co-workers, and the public.
- Ability to direct diverse productions, coordinate production requirements and schedule productions.
- Ability to communicate effectively with tact and diplomacy.
- Proficient in using character generators.
As part of the hiring process, a skills assessment may be conducted to understand proficiency in key areas relevant to the role.
Working Conditions
- Moderate physical activity (carrying items less than 50 pounds).
- In emergencies, may require on-site reporting within 2 hours.
- On-site presence in support of the U.S. Senate when in session; must be available during government shutdowns, inclement weather, holidays, late-night, overnight, and weekend sessions. In the context of government furloughs, the position is considered excepted.

- Be a U.S. citizen;
- Be lawfully admitted for permanent residence and seeking citizenship as outlined in 8 U.S.C. 1324b(a)(3)(B);
- Be admitted as a refugee or granted asylum under applicable U.S. law, or be a non-citizen U.S. national; and
- Be willing to undergo a background/security investigation.
Employment is contingent on background / security investigation results.
