Responsibilities

  • Independently lead complex technical initiatives for the entire organization and across domains
  • Drive technical direction and roadmap; lead across domain teams and guide others toward the right technical decisions
  • Authors ADRs (Architecture Decision Records) that serve as blueprints or proposed solutions and influence overall tech strategy
  • Responsible for one or more large functional areas with in-depth knowledge and expertise
  • Demonstrate a strong systems mindset, addressing performance, security, and future-proofing solutions beyond immediate needs
  • Take ownership of complex projects, driving them from conception to successful implementation
  • Act with change agency to set a high bar and uplevel across teams on culture, process, and engineering practices; empower teams through collaboration, knowledge sharing, and tool building
  • Identify areas in the app ecosystem and adjacencies that are likely to change and build flexible designs to improve engineering velocity
  • Maintain a long-term technology vision to continually modernize and keep systems relevant in changing environments

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in EE, CS, or related field
  • 10+ years of experience in video streaming or related domains with 5+ years as an architect/technical lead responsible for end-to-end product scope across multiple domains
  • Deep knowledge of video codecs (H.264, H.265, VP9, AV1) and encoding tools (FFmpeg)
  • Expertise in streaming protocols (HLS, WebRTC, SRT) and understanding of tradeoffs between implementations
  • Experience building and scaling media pipelines in cloud environments
  • Proficiency in performance tuning, video analytics (QoE), and debugging live systems
  • Solid knowledge of end-to-end system design across frontend to backend (JavaScript frameworks, GraphQL/REST APIs, messaging systems, RDBMS/NOSQL, containers, infrastructure) with deep knowledge in several key components; GraphQL experience is preferable
  • Experience leading complex technical initiatives across teams from inception to delivery
  • Has designed and built live video streaming solutions at enterprise scale with deep expertise in live streaming technologies; capable of driving the technical direction of eBay’s live video platform

Base compensation

The base pay range for this position is expected to be $210,400 — $280,900. Base pay offered may vary based on location, skills, and experience. The total compensation package may include a target bonus and stock units, plus a full range of benefits, including health, retirement plans, and time off.
