General Description
Performs administrative support work sorting and shelving books in assigned areas, maintains the collection in good order, and related work as apparent or assigned. Work is performed under the close supervision of the Programming and Technology Services Librarian.
The hours are Wednesday and Thursday from 4:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. and a three-week rotation which includes two Fridays from 2:00 p.m. - 5:00 p.m. and one Saturday from 10:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.
Essential Functions of the Job / Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE JOB
  • Sort and shelve books in assigned area according to alphabetical, numerical or categorical systems.
  • Help maintain an orderly appearance of the library.
  • Pull hold materials when required.
  • Empty drop box periodically throughout the day and evening.
  • Perform closing duties which include picking up browsed materials and re-shelving them, shutting down computers if needed, push in chairs and mentioning to patrons that the library is closing fifteen minutes prior to closing.
  • Turn in materials needing repair to circulation staff directly.
  • Pull new books that are ready to be changed to old and give to circulation staff.
  • Retrieve and return items from storage when asked to do so by staff.
  • Straighten all shelves; pick up books that are left off the shelf.
  • Shift books if shelves are unevenly spaced.
  • Straighten computer areas, pick up paper, sharpen pencils and cut scratch paper.
  • Do quick reading of current magazines/newspaper shelves.
  • Occupy Children's Desk when required.
  • Conduct shelf reading for accuracy and record process in Shelf Reading binder.
  • Refer patron questions to desk staff.
The aforementioned functions are normal for this position. They are not to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive. Other duties may be required and assigned.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSA)
  • Ability to deal effectively with members of the public.
  • Knowledge of and ability to perform filing duties with accuracy and speed.
  • Knowledge of and ability to perform basic office and clerical activities.
  • Ability to perform basic mathematic operations.
  • Basic knowledge email client navigation and ability to respond in writing to emailed correspondence.

Education and Experience

High school diploma, GED, or enrollment in high school courses.
Physical Requirements
This work requires the regular exertion of up to 10 pounds of force and frequent exertion of up to 25 pounds of force; work regularly requires standing, walking, using hands to finger, handle or feel, stooping, kneeling, crouching and reaching with hands and arms, frequently requires pushing or pulling, lifting and repetitive motions and occasionally requires sitting, speaking or hearing and balancing; work requires close vision, distance vision, ability to adjust focus, depth perception, color perception; vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels; work requires visual inspection involving small defects and/or small parts; work has no exposure to environmental conditions; work is generally in a quiet location (e.g. library, private offices).
