Job Summary
The PR and Communications Specialist works closely with both the Director and VP of PR and Communications to manage matchday media operations, develop media relations plans related to the LA Galaxy and Dignity Health Sports Park, and support the company's goals and initiatives, leading to increased brand awareness and a positive reputation. The Specialist is responsible for media activities, including identification of new opportunities, facilitation of interviews, collaboration with local and national journalists on story content, and media tracking for the full communications function.
Responsibilities
- Work closely with the VP and Director of PR and Communications to develop and implement comprehensive media relations strategies and plans for LA Galaxy and Dignity Health Sports Park events.
- Write and distribute news releases and media advisories, game notes, pitch stories to targeted media outlets, and respond to media inquiries.
- Oversee and manage all matchday media operations, including distribution of game notes and communications, press box setup, postgame press conference coordination, and overall media support. Fulfill and manage media credentials to ensure proper access for approved media partners attending home games.
- Develop and maintain comprehensive editorial calendars, media lists, and asset calendars to ensure coordinated and efficient communications efforts.
- Support the execution of PR for the LA Galaxy & Dignity Health Sports Park Foundation and oversee all public relations needs related to these entities.
- Supervise media operations for ancillary events at Dignity Health Sports Park, including matchday preparation and post-match responsibilities. Manage credentials, photo marshaling, press box operations, media inquiries, and post-match media availabilities.
- Identify and foster relationships with national and local journalists, bloggers, and other influencers to broaden outreach and enhance coverage.
- Monitor and track communication metrics and KPIs and provide detailed reports to leadership to inform strategic decisions.
Qualifications
- BA/BS Degree (4-year) in Public Relations, Marketing, Communications, English or Journalism is preferred
- 2-4 years of related work experience in communications
- Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills, including the ability to professionally communicate and interact with all levels of management and staff
- Self-directed and reliable in planning and completing tasks
- Detail-oriented, highly organized with the ability to manage multiple tasks and projects in a fast-paced environment
- Ability to adapt to change without notice
- Understanding of media monitoring and analytics tools
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook), Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, InDesign) and willingness to learn other business systems as necessary
- Ability to travel and work flexible hours, including weekends and holidays, due to the nature of professional sports
- Team player with professional demeanor, responsibility, initiative, dependability, and a positive attitude
- High ethical standards and strong sense of confidentiality
- Ability to speak, read, and write in Spanish strongly preferred
Compensation and Benefits
Payscale: $69,000- $75,000
Bonus: This position is not eligible for a bonus under the current bonus plan requirements.
