Overview
The Veterinary Information Network (VIN), an online community and educational resource for veterinarians, is looking for an experienced Technical Writer to join our communications team and worldwide VIN family in Davis, CA. This is a hybrid position with onsite work. We will not be offering relocation assistance for this position.

Position Overview
Under the general direction of the Communications Manager, you will play a key role in supporting veterinarians worldwide by producing high-quality content that helps members maximize VIN. This position requires comprehensive experience in the production of technical documentation, from research and cross-team collaboration to revisions and production.
Key Responsibilities
- Translate technical information into accurate and accessible content for veterinarians.
- Research, collect, and analyze technical information from various sources, including communicating with various teams, to gather essential details about products, services, and processes.
- Assess project needs to determine requirements, priority, and appropriate communication style.
- Plan and structure content logically for audience comprehension and usability.
- Produce and integrate relevant visual aids into content.
- Edit and provide quality control to ensure content is accurate and consistent with style guides.
- Assist with editing, revising, and updating content using internal authoring tools.
- Collaborate with team and cross-team members to achieve content goals, attend department and cross-department meetings, communicate release schedules, share status updates, and manage feedback for updating and improving existing content.
- Additional duties include assisting with other related tasks as needed.

- Is proficient in various software programs and quick to learn new systems (e.g., Microsoft Office, web browsers, image editing software, content management systems, and VIN-specific tools).
- Has basic HTML skills required for fine-tuning content formatting.
- Manages and prioritizes daily, monthly, and quarterly responsibilities effectively.
- Communicates clearly in both written and verbal formats.
- Works independently and collaboratively.
- Is adaptable and open to cross-training and adopting new processes.
Qualifications
- Minimum of three years of experience developing help documentation, release notes, and/or instructional manuals, ideally in a veterinary, medical, or scientific context.
- Bachelor's degree in English, Communications, or other relevant field.
Salary and Benefits
The salary range for this position is $28 to $35 per hour. Wage depends on experience and qualifications. VIN currently offers benefits including Medical (with HRA), Dental, Vision, Life Insurance, FSA (medical and dependent care) as well as a 401k with a company dollar-for-dollar match up to 6% and starting accruing vacation and sick time as of your first day.
