Job Title: Library Circulation Clerk
Under general supervision, is responsible for operation and general maintenance of the circulation desk and collection and inspection of library materials at the San Antonio Public Library. Working conditions are primarily inside an office environment. Exercises no supervision. Work location one of the 28 library locations; location dependent upon the needs of the department. Work hours varies and is based on departmental needs; Saturday-Friday work week; weekends and evenings required. Essential job functions include: attending to the circulation needs of library patrons, including checking materials in and out and resolving patron complaints; collecting library fines and fees; processing requests for reservations of library materials and entering data into the library's automated system; providing vital records following appropriate procedures; assisting patrons in obtaining library cards; preparing and submitting statistical and cash reports; answering inquiries and referring patrons requiring professional assistance; maintaining supplies; and performing related duties and fulfilling responsibilities as required. Job requirements include a high school diploma or GED equivalent. Preferred qualifications include an optimistic and welcoming approach to customer interactions, experience in maintaining a professional demeanor during high-stress interactions, experience working as part of a diverse team, Spanish language proficiency, and cash handling experience. Knowledge, skills, and abilities required include knowledge of basic arithmetic, spelling, and grammar; skill in utilizing a personal computer and associated software programs; ability to communicate clearly and effectively; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships; ability to maintain clerical records and prepare statistical reports; and ability to perform all physical requirements of the job, with or without accommodations.
