Overview
Instructor Graphic Design and Illustration
Full-time, 9-month professional-track appointment at the rank of Instructor to begin August 16, 2026. The position includes teaching load of 8 courses per academic year with the possibility of an 11-month appointment if an administrative role (to manage the Digital Print Lab) is included. Appointments are annual and may be renewed contingent upon Dean’s approval, department needs, and funding.
Responsibilities
- Teach courses across the design curriculum, including introductory design technology foundation and typographic design.
- Mentor students and support the expansion of the Graphic Design + Illustration (GD+I) BFA program.
- Maintain and manage the Digital Print Lab; collaborate on curriculum matters with faculty and adjunct instructors.
- Develop and potentially teach new courses in entrepreneurship and business strategies for creatives.
About the Program
The Graphic Design + Illustration (GD+I) program is a concentration of the Studio Art BFA in the School of Visual Art and Design. Students pursue internships, complete a portfolio review for admission, and engage in capstone experiences. The program emphasizes research-driven, data-informed design and includes coursework in motion, interaction, interface and experience design, augmented reality, design with AI and machine learning, typography, branding, and illustration.
Qualifications
- Required Education And Experience: MFA, MDes, or PhD in graphic design, illustration, or closely related field by the start date of employment. Demonstrated expertise in graphic design, current design technology, and collaboration with faculty and adjunct instructors on curriculum matters.
- Preferred Qualifications: Same as above (MFA, MDes, or PhD) with ability to collaborate on curriculum matters.
