About the role
The Principal Multimedia Designer will serve as a lead specialist guiding the development of compelling multimedia content that engages the public and communicates complex public health information in clear, accessible ways. This role will focus on video, graphic, and interactive storytelling that is informed by data and aligned with CDC’s mission, brand, and digital modernization strategy.
This is a hands-on role with subject-matter expertise, ideal for an experienced professional who can both execute and guide others.
This is a full-time position contingent on contract award by our client, with a defined performance period of one year with two one-year option periods. This role offers you a unique opportunity to make a meaningful impact on a project that aligns with Bixal’s mission of delivering innovative, human-centered solutions. While the role has a fixed duration, we are committed to transparency and collaboration, keeping you informed about contract updates and new opportunities. Compensation :
The salary range for this role is $120,000 — $135,000. In the spirit of transparency, most offers tend to land near the midpoint of the range. We make compensation decisions thoughtfully, considering your experience, the skills you bring, and our commitment to internal equity. Fairness and transparency are core to how we operate.
Responsibilities
Lead the planning, production, and delivery of high-quality multimedia content (videos, graphics, animations, and interactive media) to support public health campaigns.
Translate complex scientific or public health data into clear, engaging visual stories tailored to diverse audiences.
Provide guidance and informal mentorship to junior designers and producers, sharing best practices in multimedia production.
Collaborate with UX, social media, and content strategy teams to develop integrated cross-platform campaigns.
Ensure all content aligns with accessibility standards, CDC brand guidelines, and evidence-based communication best practices.
Use analytics and audience insights to evaluate content performance, reporting findings and recommending refinements.
Maintain production schedules and manage multiple content projects in a fast-paced environment.
Stay current on emerging tools, formats, and creative techniques to bring innovative approaches to CDC communications.
Other relevant duties as assigned and qualified/trained to perform.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree plus 10 years of progressive experience
Recent experience producing video and graphic content for public health or science communication
Demonstrated ability to use storytelling and data to drive engagement and understanding
Proficiency with industry-standard design, video, and multimedia production tools
Strong understanding of digital accessibility standards and inclusive design practices
Evidence of providing mentorship or guidance to creative staff
Demonstrated ability to evaluate multimedia performance and communicate ROI to project stakeholders
Exceptional collaboration, communication, and time-management skills
Proven experience supporting or advising federal agencies or large, complex organizations
