Job Posting Title – Faculty, Integrated Reading and Writing
Job Description Summary
Integrated Reading and Writing (INRW) is part of the Composition and Literary Studies (CLS) Department. ACC offers on-campus and online courses across all campuses. This position begins August 2026. The faculty role includes online and in-person instruction of stand-alone and corequisite INRW courses, taught in coordination with college‑level classes.
Principal Responsibilities and Duties
- Prepare and teach courses in Integrated Reading and Writing to a multicultural student population, based on the department’s approved learning outcomes, using instructional strategies appropriate to community college students and disciplinary standards.
- Participate in departmental responsibilities and governance, including curriculum review and revision, program review, assessment of student learning outcomes at course and program levels, and other departmental activities.
- Evaluate student progress and provide clear, timely feedback aligned with program learning outcomes and departmental expectations.
- Serve as a mentor to INRW students.
- Provide teaching and mentoring that does not discriminate based on race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, disability, age, protected veteran status, political affiliation, or other protected categories.
- Remain current in the field through professional development activities.
- Support division and department goals through active and collegial engagement in decision-making and unit-level planning.
- Serve on collegewide and departmental committees, councils, work groups, and task forces.
- Perform other related tasks as assigned by the department chair, dean, or higher administration.
Technology
- Proficiency with computer applications, online resources, and classroom technologies.
- Proficiency in using an online learning management system (e.g., Blackboard) to develop course content and perform administrative duties (posting office hours, syllabi, etc.).
Professional Standards
- Appropriate use of the college’s learning management system.
- Meet deadlines for attendance certification and final course grades.
- Participate in graduation, general assembly, and other official college functions.
- Maintain regular office hours to assist students and support retention and success.
- Attend and participate in collegewide, campus, department, or other activities and meetings.
- Demonstrate civility and collegiality in all interactions.
- Comply with college policies and professional standards for teaching in a community college.
Required Minimum Education
SACSCOC requirements apply. Education requirements may vary by courses taught within the discipline.
- Bachelor’s degree in Reading, Writing, English, Language Arts, or Curriculum and Instruction with at least three (3) graduate hours in Reading, three (3) graduate hours in Writing, and three (3) graduate hours in an appropriate education course focused on adult learners, teaching developmental courses, or education methods with experience teaching INRW at the pre-college level.
Preferred Education
- Master’s degree in Reading, Developmental Education, or Literacy; or
- Master’s Degree with 18 hours in Reading/Writing, or an MA in English with 3 hours of Reading and 3 hours of Writing.
