Disney Branded Television is seeking a dynamic and strategic Vice President, Development to join its creative leadership team. Reporting to the SVP of Development, this executive will lead the development of original scripted series content for Disney+, with a strong focus on creating brand-appropriate, compelling, and innovative programming for a global family audience. The VP will supervise the development of projects from pitch through pilot and production, foster key relationships across the creative community, and collaborate cross-functionally to bring high-quality storytelling to life.
Responsibilities:
- Creative Strategy Execution: Partner with the SVP to execute the creative development strategy for original scripted content aligned with Disney Branded Televisions brand and audience goals.
- Project Evaluation & Development: Source, solicit, and evaluate project submissions, scripts, and pitches. Oversee the development of projects through treatments, outlines, and script drafts.
- Talent Relations: Identify, build, and maintain relationships with established and emerging talent, including writers, producers, and directors. Proactively pursue partnerships that expand the creative pipeline.
- Production Oversight: Provide creative supervision throughout the pilot and production process, ensuring creative vision is maintained across all stages of development.
- Casting & Staffing: Collaborate with casting and production teams to make key above-the-line staffing decisions and ensure projects are appropriately resourced.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Liaise with internal departments (Production, Business & Legal Affairs, Marketing, Franchise) to ensure creative alignment and operational efficiency.
- Problem Solving: Lead creative and production problem-solving efforts, navigating challenges in a collaborative and solutions-oriented manner.
- Strategic Contribution: Contribute to long-range content planning, trend tracking, and slate curation in alignment with broader Disney+ goals.
- Team Leadership: Provide leadership, mentorship, and development to junior staff, including direct management of an Executive Assistant.
Qualifications:
- Proven track record of developing successful scripted television series, preferably for hour long drama development
- Deep understanding of the scripted development process and production lifecycle.
- Strong creative instincts with the ability to recognize and shape high-quality storytelling.
- Established relationships with agents, writers, directors, and production companies.
- Demonstrated ability to manage complex projects and timelines in a fast-paced environment.
- Effective communicator with strong interpersonal and leadership skills.
- Passion for family content and a keen understanding of evolving audience behavior.
- Ability to strategically align creative projects with brand and business goals.
Preferred Experience:
- Minimum of 10+ years of experience in television development or production, with at least 3 years in a senior leadership role.
- Prior experience developing for streaming platforms or premium networks.
- Bachelors degree required; advanced degree or equivalent industry experience preferred.
