About Mentor A Promise (MAP): MAP is a nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting children and youth ages 5–18 experiencing housing instability in New York City. Through mentorship, social-emotional learning, academic enrichment, creative expression, and community partnerships, MAP builds consistent, safe, and empowering spaces where every child can thrive.

Role

Grant Writer (Volunteer) – Remote

MAP is seeking Volunteer Grant Writers to support fundraising efforts by researching opportunities, drafting proposals, and preparing reports that help sustain and expand programs. This role is ideal for individuals with strong writing and research skills who want to contribute to a mission-driven organization making a direct impact in the lives of underserved youth.

Key Responsibilities

  • Research and identify grant opportunities from foundations, corporations, and government sources
  • Write compelling proposals that effectively communicate MAP’s mission, programs, and impact
  • Collaborate with program staff and leadership to gather data, stories, and financial information for applications
  • Prepare supporting documents such as budgets, outcome reports, and progress updates
  • Track deadlines and manage a grant calendar to ensure timely submissions
  • Contribute to post-award reporting and funder stewardship activities

Qualifications

  • Strong writing, editing, and research skills
  • Ability to craft persuasive narratives tailored to specific funders
  • Organizational skills to manage multiple deadlines and projects
  • Familiarity with nonprofit funding, proposal writing, or development (preferred but not required)
  • Commitment to MAP’s mission of mentorship, equity, and youth empowerment

Commitment

  • Volunteer role, approximately 5–10 hours per week
  • Minimum 6-month commitment preferred
  • Remote with flexible scheduling
