Position Summary

The Digital Content Producer is the primary storyteller and digital voice for the Missouri Historical Society’s three entities: the Missouri History Museum in Forest Park, the Library & Research Center on Skinker Blvd., and Soldiers Memorial Military Museum in downtown St. Louis. This position leads the creation of compelling content across social media and digital platforms, producing stories that engage diverse audiences, inspire attendance at exhibitions and events, and elevate awareness of the Missouri Historical Society’s mission and collections.

Duties/Responsibilities

  • Create original social media content—both written and video—that highlights MHS stories, collections, and events in ways that resonate with broad and diverse audiences
  • Lead the day-to-day execution of MHS’s social media strategy, in collaboration with the digital communications team
  • Script, film, edit, and produce both long-form and short-form video content optimized for multiple platforms
  • Use social listening, trend analysis, and active engagement to grow and strengthen relationships with online communities
  • Provide responsive digital customer service, addressing inquiries, feedback, and comments in a professional, mission-aligned voice
  • Track and report on social media performance using Sprout Social and other analytics tools
  • Collaborate with curators, historians, conservators, and archivists to translate institutional expertise into accessible, engaging content
  • Cover occasional evening and weekend events for live social media storytelling
  • Support digital campaigns by identifying target audiences and selecting content for paid promotion
  • Serve as in-house event photographer and create simple graphics (using Canva or similar tools) as needed
  • Other duties as assigned

Skills

  • Understanding how analytics and data can inform digital strategy; creative, witty, and compelling writing style for digital audiences
  • Advanced skills in video production for social and web content
  • Familiarity with Adobe Creative Cloud products, including Photoshop and Premiere Pro
  • Familiarity with CapCut Pro or other mobile-first editing platforms
  • Video production/editing experience

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in journalism, marketing, communications, or a related field
  • 4+ years of experience creating and managing branded social media content
  • Proven ability to identify stories within an organization and craft them into compelling social content across multiple platforms
  • Exceptional writing and storytelling ability (3–5 writing samples required)
  • Knowledge of best practices for Facebook, Instagram, Twitter/X, YouTube, TikTok, and emerging platforms
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate across departments and with team members
  • Ability to prioritize projects, meet deadlines, and adapt to unplanned situations
  • Critical thinking skills to ensure historical content is presented thoughtfully and responsibly
  • Familiarity with Canva (or similar tools) for creating simple social graphics
  • Willingness to attend evening and weekend events for social coverage
