Overview

Young Adult Services Librarian at City of Oxnard. This recruitment is open until filled; applications will be reviewed on a regular and ongoing basis. There is one full-time vacancy within the Cultural and Community Services Department.

What You'll Do

  • Plan, coordinate, and facilitate teen and young adult programming and outreach for a diverse community.
  • Collaborate with other library workers, departments, and organizations to provide resources to the library and community.
  • Serve patrons on the reference desk through reference questions, readers advisory, and basic technology requests.
  • Assist patrons with basic digital literacy questions.
  • Assist on the circulation desk with checking in/out materials and assisting patrons.
  • Select and maintain teen and young adult collections as assigned.
  • Create displays and marketing materials to engage the community in and outside of the library.
  • Provide excellent customer service and the ability to resolve customer questions, concerns, and complaints.
  • Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Classification: Librarian

Work Schedule

Normal work week is Monday through Thursday and every other Saturday and Sunday as assigned. Hours may include some evenings and/or nights.

Essential Functions

  • Provide library services and professional support to the public; respond to inquiries and reference requests; perform reference searches and provide resources or referrals; review and resolve customer service issues.
  • Plan, implement, and promote programs and events; manage resources; monitor budget; promote library services and perform outreach within the community and with school groups and other organizations.
  • Provide technical guidance and instruction to patrons and staff on the online catalog, library resources, and related technology; may assist in recruiting, scheduling and training volunteers.
  • Maintain digital resources and databases; prepare reports and program documentation; order and maintain program resources; assist with circulation support services as needed.
  • Perform other duties of a similar nature as assigned.

Education

Minimum Qualifications: Master’s degree in Library Science from an ALA-accredited program.

Experience

One (1) year of public library experience.

Licensing/Certifications

None required.

Other Requirements

Must be able to speak and understand English to effectively communicate with fellow employees, customers, and vendors.
